"Yo, Bee missed Darren's performance." Daisy frowned as their performer caught up with an old friend. "Where'd she go?"
"I have no idea." Malakai shrugged. "Could you check the dunny?" He suggested.
"Yeah, of course!" Daisy yelled back as she stepped away. She quickly forced her way to the back of the hall where the washrooms were located. "Bee!" Daisy called, slamming her fists on the locked cubicle doors.
"Shut the fuck up!" Someone yelled from one of the stalls.
Daisy ignored them. "Phoebe, are you in here?" There was no response. Just as Daisy was about to leave, a cubicle door creaked open. Daisy stepped over to it, and Bee let her inside.
She was sitting on the closed toilet seat, her knees pulled to her chest. Daisy, seeing her friend so vulnerable, sobered up slightly. She crouched down and rested her hands on Bee's knees. "What happened?" The girl asked.
"Harper thinks Mitchell might be here," Bee whispered. "What?" Daisy asked, confused by her words.
"Said she saw one of his friends," Bee explained.
"How does she—"
"That's what I asked," Bee cut her off. "But I'm so out of it, I have no idea what she said." She was growing anxious, fast, and Daisy knew exactly what to do. "Let's break it down, okay?"
"Okay." Bee nodded.
"E—Empirical. Where's the proof? Well, the evidence comes from Harper seeing one of his mates, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's here himself," Daisy reasoned. "L—Logical. Does it make sense that he would be here? No. He was homophobic as fuck. There's no way he'd step foot in a 'slay ball.'"
"Yeah, you're right." Phoebe agreed, her heart rate slowly settling.
"And finally, P—Pragmatic. How is believing he's here going to help you? It's not. We're at fucking Mardi Gras, Bee. I don't want to see you crying in the toilets, okay? You need to get out there and have the time of your life with your new boy." Daisy gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be stuck to you like glue from now on. If Mitzy is here? He's not getting anywhere near you."
"Okay."
"Not on my watch," Daisy added softly. "Not again." She held out her hand and helped Bee to her feet.
"I love you," Bee said as Daisy led her out of the bathroom. "I love you more," Daisy replied honestly. There was a moment of silence as the two manoeuvred through the corridors to get back to the main hall.
"You know, this might sound weird..." Bee began hesitantly. "But as I was thinking about Mitchell and everything, I realized I think I want to be Malakai's girlfriend."
