His breath caught in his throat, and I couldn't help but smile at the look of admiration on his face.

"Wow, Salma," he said, his voice low and filled with awe. "You look absolutely stunning."

"Thank you!" I twirled playfully, the dress flowing around me. "How do I look from every angle?"

"Like a goddess," he replied, stepping closer to take my hands. "I'm the luckiest man in the room, and I can't wait to show you off tonight."

Feeling a flutter in my stomach, I grinned.

"I think we're going to make quite the impression together."

"Absolutely. Let's go and dazzle everyone," he said, offering me his arm.

They always felt so fake, so forced, with people smiling through gritted teeth and flashing their wealth like it was something that defined them.

But tonight, I was here for Juan.

He'd asked me to accompany him, to show our faces as the power couple we were supposed to be, and I'd agreed.

For him.

The ballroom was grand, dripping with chandeliers and fine crystal.

Waiters in crisp uniforms moved through the crowd with trays of champagne, the soft hum of conversation blending with the elegant music playing in the background.
