Vito stepped closer, his presence overwhelming, his scent—cologne and something darker, more dangerous—filling the air around me.
"Business is part of it," he said, his voice a low rumble. "But that's not all."
I swallowed hard, my heart racing.
"What else is there?"
His eyes darkened, the smile fading from his lips as he reached out, his hand brushing a strand of hair from my face.
The touch was light, barely there, but it sent a shock of electricity through me.
"There's unfinished business between us," he said, his voice rougher now, deeper. "You know it. I know it."
I stared at him, my mind spinning.
This couldn't be happening.
He couldn't just come back into my life like this, after all these years, after everything.
"You left," I whispered, the words slipping out before I could stop them. "You left without a word. I didn't even know if you were alive."
Vito's expression hardened, something dark flashing in his eyes.
"I had no choice. Things were... complicated."
I shook my head, frustration bubbling up inside me.
"That's not good enough, Vito. You don't get to come back and act like nothing happened."
He stepped even closer, so close that I could feel the heat radiating from his body.
"I'm not acting like nothing happened, Salma. I'm here because something did happen. Something we never finished."
