When her bartender went into the music playroom, she filled her wine glass and turned around to go back to her seat. She found two new guests came into the bar and chose to sit down on the seat that she has taken before. The previous waiter who was talking with her walked into the new guests to collect their order. She was still standing at the bar counter and wondered when the rain would stop and if the more guests would walk in for tonight.
"Well, here we go." It was her new bartender came out from the playlist room with a grin on his face. He looked like he got the grand prize. She smiled and waited for the first beat to come from the speaker.
"Jeez". She got chill for a moment because it was John Mayer's Slow Dancing in The Burning Room playing. That was one of her favorite songs over the years and she used to listen to it when she was in her early 20s because she used to be big fan of Mayer around that time.
"I didn't have a clue that you would be playing that song for tonight." She said to her bartender by sipping the wine from her glass.
"I only chose John Mayer's songs for an hour cos I want to listen to his songs on a night like this." Her bartender was still grinning as he won trophy for tonight. She didn't have any objection either cos she found herself already willing to listen to those songs because Mayer's songs always brought nostalgic, raw emotions and the bridge to re-connect with herself in 20s.
She just smiled by looking at her bartender and considered he had good taste in music because he played this song.
As she enjoyed the music, she turned her head to the seat where the new couple took. She felt the blood inside her vein stopped running for a minute because the guy who was sitting there was one of her exes who she dated for more than 3 years back in late 2000s. He was the one who introduced her to John Mayer's music, and she felt shocked when she saw him in person while one of John Mayer's song was playing.
He didn't seem to notice her because he was looking at the menu and figuring out what to order. She heard he was married five years ago. So, she thought he was coming over to bar with his wife. Maybe they were on trip cos he was not living in this town. Although it was more than a decade they broke up, seeing her ex from a decade ago in the moment when one of their favorite songs played in background brought the old memories she buried over a decade.
She could not remember why they even broke up. But she could recall the feeling of first heartbroken moment because he was her first love, and she never thought they would be breaking up. The love was so intense, and she was really crazy about him. He was crazy about her, and they could not even see the whole world except theirs. They used to live in their own world, and they did not let anyone to ruin it. They both just built by themselves and destroyed their own world after that.
He used to play "Your Body is Wonderland" on his guitar when they started dating. He was interested in music instruments especially guitar and he used to play guitar at almost every college occasion. She was such a girl who tried to catch up with her own dream and they crossed their path in their college days. The memories from 20 years ago were flying over before her eyes in the form of bubble and she was enjoying watching it again cos she felt like she was watching a good romantic movie with beautiful soundtrack. She was wondering why this kind of moment just happened all of sudden. She could not speak until the song was over. Her bartender noticed that she went silent.
"Some memories coming back to you."
"Oh yeah, not only the memories but the person from those memories just showed up with his wife in this bar." She cracked a joke about herself and laughed it off. She wanted to laugh cos she found it was so funny. Her bartender looked confused a while and he sneaked a look to the recent couple came into the bar. He already realized that what was going on here.
"Oh, is that your ex sitting with a woman over there?"
"Hell yeah, she is his wife, I guess. I heard they were married for like five years now." she noticed that her throat went dried for a while. She was not feeling sad for seeing him with his wife, but she was feeling sentimental because of the memories from past came back to her.
