I'm afraid to admit... My biggest fumble in this story was not making Usopp and Kaya soulmates. Wtf was I thinking y'all.

Anyway, I've been messing with the narrative style a little bit in this one... Wanted to make Luffy a little more in depth, if that makes sense? Like, we start to get an idea of what he's thinking somewhat better. I tried adding somebody new to the narrative, too... I dunno, lemme know what you think!

Another note, I'll be updating the first chapter and adding something new pretty soon after I post this :) I did a little side-project for this story based on some of y'alls comments. I've been debating for a while, it was fun though lol.

Alrighty, lil' longer chapter than usual. I'm a lil' sick so hopefully my writing holds up!!

Happy reading!! <3

It was a long night. We hadn't played chess the entire time, instead we would take a few breaks between matches, heading off to different sections of the room and doing whatever else there was to do. I read for the most part. Every now and again the Lieutenant would come in and give a report on any developments in the last couple of hours, but otherwise it was just us two in the room. Needless to say, it was insanely awkward and exhausting. My eyelids were so stiff it was becoming difficult to open and close them.

On the plus side, there hadn't been any bad news about the crew yet, from what I'd heard. That, and how I might be a little better at chess now.

Well, he didn't leave the room 'till this morning, anyway. Something about going fishing again? And he was serious about it, too; hauling away with his fishing pole while wearing the outfit that we had first met in. He had been gone for a while at this point, and I was beginning to question why.

Why all of this? Why was he so oddly-friendly? Why had I not been put into some kinda' jail cell? It couldn't have been just to keep his subordinates from panicking... there was a lie somewhere, and I couldn't figure out what it was. Also, why would he just leave me here with nobody to keep watch?

I get up, inching toward the door and eyeing the room wearily. I had been sitting in that chair for an hour-ish, keeping my book open while looking about the room for some sort of camera. Some sort of reason that he so freely left without so much as a word. Still, I didn't see anything.

Wrapping a hand around the doorknob, I listen quietly for anything on the other side of the door, something or somebody that might be waiting in case this thing did open (which I doubted). Hearing nothing but the sound of my own fingers tightening around its metal surface, I take a deep breath and pull.

It didn't open, of course. The handle barely even budged from its spot. I sighed with a shake of my head. Even if it opened, where the hell would I go? What would I do?

I turn around, ready to return to the book that detailed various species of fish, before my gaze halts over his desk. There were keys on the table.

"...t's fine, just make sure he's properly apprehended. If you keep him away from his swords, it should be alright."

I practically sprint back across the room when I hear the voice grow closer, fumbling with the cast on my foot. Sweeping across the desk on my way back to my spot, I scramble to tuck the keys into a pocket as subtly as possible, before throwing myself into the cushioned seat. I've barely managed to flip to a random page when the group of marines begin to filter into the room.

One young marine boy in particular is holding a large snail that bears the marine colors. It had a very strange looking face, nothing like any snail I've seen before. Almost as soon as he enters the creature begins to... ring? Its mouth was moving in accordance with the noise. What the hell?
