Sometimes, the universe is a vicious, unforgiving bitch; other times, it drips with honeyed sweetness, taunting you with what you'll never have.

For reasons I can't fathom, it's decided to make me its personal enemy. It's led me here, to the middle of nowhere, when I could be anywhere else, doing anything else.

Honestly, I'd rather be on some rooftop, drowning in cheap liquor and watching oblivious couples dance in the haze-and it wouldn't be nearly as bad as this.

But instead, here I am, stranded on this deserted road, wondering if vampires and werewolves really exist-and if tonight, they'll finally reveal themselves.

I can almost feel it, the prickling sensation of danger in the dark. And when they do show up, I'll probably end up face-first on the ground, blacked out before I even get to scream.

The thunderstorm tore through the sky with a vengeance, each rumble clawing at my nerves. I pulled my coat tighter, but it did little to ward off the chill biting through the flimsy dress beneath it. Still, I checked my phone for what must have been the fifteenth time, hoping for an escape. The screen taunted me with the same line over and over : Trying to find the best driver for you.

The city felt deserted, and I was trapped in its storm, as if the universe itself wanted me stranded, alone, and exposed.

I replaced my phone with a glance at my watch, turning my focus to my wrist, which told me it was exactly 7:49 PM.

7:49 PM. Ohhh.
Fuck.

Panic hit instantly. It's Saturday, and in an hour and a half, I'm expected to be sitting next to my father, smiling like nothing's wrong.

Because, apparently, every month, at least two family dinners must be held with my father's best friend's family. And, very fortunately, today is one of those days.

And from the universe's point of view, why not pile it all on, right?

Good question-how did I end up in this situation? Well, on a scale of 0 to 10, how much of a fool am I for refusing Adhir when he offered to drop me back at my mansion?

I was supposed to wrap up the last photoshoot of the month, since it's already the last week. But the photographer-renowned as the best in India-was urgently called to New York for God knows what reason.

And I was left waiting for two fucking hours!

Think positive? How is that even possible when you're wearing a short dress, standing in the middle of nowhere, waiting for at least two or three cars to pass by?
