Vardaan's POV
As Vardaan entered the Grand Avenue, the buzz of celebration enveloped him. He scanned the room, noting the animated conversations and laughter. His attention shifted to a group of investors gathered near the bar, and he made his way over, ready to discuss the new venture they had been contemplating.
"Good evening, everyone," Vardaan greeted, his confidence palpable. "I hope you're enjoying the celebration."
"Absolutely, Vardaan! It's great to see you," Mr. Patel responded, a smile lighting up his face. "We've been eager to hear more about your plans for the upcoming projects."
Vardaan nodded, appreciating the interest. "We're focusing on sustainable initiatives that not only drive profits but also contribute positively to the environment. It's a unique angle that I believe will resonate well with consumers."
"Interesting approach," another investor chimed in. "The market is definitely leaning toward more responsible investments. What specific strategies are you considering?"
Vardaan felt a surge of enthusiasm. "We're exploring partnerships with green tech firms to enhance our offerings. This collaboration could position us as leaders in the sustainability space."
Just as the conversation deepened, Natasha and Karan approached, their presence a sudden interruption.
"Vardaan! There you are!" Natasha exclaimed, a bit too brightly. "I was just telling Karan how crucial our teamwork was in landing this investment."
Karan leaned in, smirking. "Yeah, without Natasha's guidance, we'd be lost," he added, clearly aiming for the spotlight.
Vardaan raised an eyebrow but remained composed. "Teamwork is indeed important," he replied diplomatically. "But it's also vital to recognize individual contributions."
At that moment, Raj stepped in, his voice cutting through the pretense. "Actually, the deal was largely due to Bhumija's exceptional presentation and her confidence. She really stood out."
"Bhumija?" Vardaan echoed, looking toward her as she approached. There was something endearing about her—she seemed demure yet steady, a mix of humility and determination.
Raj continued, "Let me introduce you. Bhumija, this is Vardaan Kapoor, our CFO."
Bhumija smiled shyly, her cheeks slightly flushed. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sir," she said, her voice steady but soft.
"Likewise, Bhumija. Congratulations on your achievement today. You did a remarkable job," Vardaan replied, genuinely impressed.
"Thank you," she said, her eyes sparkling with appreciation.
"Let's raise a toast!" Vardaan suggested, raising his glass. "To Bhumija and her outstanding work!"
As the glasses clinked together, Bhumija took a sip of her juice, a slight smile on her face.
"Come on, Bhumija, you should celebrate properly," Natasha chimed in, her tone patronizing. "You can't toast with juice. Respect the occasion and have a drink."
Bhumija hesitated. "I don't really drink, but thank you," she replied, her voice firm yet polite.
Vardaan's demeanor shifted. "Natasha, let's not pressure her. The important thing is that we're celebrating her achievement, not how she chooses to celebrate it," he said firmly, ensuring Bhumija felt supported.
Natasha quickly adjusted her tone, albeit begrudgingly. "Of course, of course," she replied, but Vardaan noticed the slight annoyance in her eyes.
The celebration continued, laughter and chatter filling the room, but Vardaan felt a sense of pride in how Bhumija had handled herself amidst the chaos. As the evening unfolded, he couldn't help but be drawn to her quiet strength, ready to see what the future held for both of them.
Bhumija's POV
As the celebration continued, Bhumija found herself reflecting on how Vardaan had stood up for her earlier. His support had been a ray of light in an otherwise overwhelming day, and she felt a deep admiration for him. The way he had defended her against Natasha's pushiness made her heart flutter. She never expected the Vardaan Malhotra, the co-founder and CFO, would take her side like that.
The atmosphere was lively—people were laughing, dancing, and enjoying the delicious spread. Bhumija took a moment to soak it all in, feeling grateful for the momentous achievement she had just accomplished. However, the excitement of the night made her need to excuse herself for a moment.
As she headed toward the restroom, she felt a presence behind her. Turning slightly, she noticed Karan approaching with a predatory grin that made her stomach drop.
"Hey, where are you going?" he slurred, clearly a few drinks deep.
Before she could respond, he grabbed her wrist, pulling her toward him. "You're really beautiful. I'd love to see how graceful you are in bed," he whispered, his breath reeking of alcohol. Bhumija felt a wave of panic crash over her, the words sinking in as she struggled against his hold. Tears threatened to spill as fear gripped her.
Just as she felt completely trapped, a woman emerged from the restroom and caught sight of the scene unfolding. "Hey! Let her go!" Diya said firmly, stepping forward.
Karan released his grip as if burned, backing off with an irritated huff. Bhumija blinked back tears, her heart racing.
"Are you okay?" Diya asked, her voice filled with concern. "Where do you want to go? I can walk you anywhere."
"Um, yes, please," Bhumija managed to reply, grateful for the support. She didn't want to be alone, not after what had just happened.
They walked toward the entrance of the celebration, the noise of the party fading slightly as Bhumija tried to regain her composure. Diya glanced at her, a gentle look in her eyes. "Do you want me to call the police?" she offered, her concern evident.
Bhumija shook her head, wiping away a tear. "No, thank you. I just want to go back to the party."
As they approached the doorway, Bhumija took a deep breath. "I'm Bhumija, by the way," she said, trying to shift the focus from the earlier incident.
"Diya," the woman replied with a reassuring smile. "You handled that really well. Just remember, you're not alone."
"Thank you, Diya. I really appreciate your help," Bhumija said, feeling a warmth in her heart.
When they reached the celebration, Bhumija took a moment to gather herself before stepping back into the crowd. She bid goodbye to Diya, who nodded encouragingly before heading off.
Spotting Raj, she forced a smile, trying to blend back into the joy of the evening. Just then, she noticed Vardaan watching her from across the room. He approached, but instead of speaking directly to her, he kept a respectful distance, his eyes filled with concern.
"Raj," he said, his tone serious, "Bhumija looks upset. Can you drive her home?"
Bhumija's heart sank a little; she had hoped for a few comforting words from Vardaan, but she understood. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable.
"Of course," Raj replied, glancing between them.
Bhumija nodded, feeling grateful for Vardaan's concern even if he didn't approach her directly. As she prepared to leave, she caught Vardaan's eye one last time. His expression was kind, and in that moment, she felt a deep appreciation for him.
"Take care, Bhumija," he said softly, enough for her to hear without making a scene.
"Thank you, Vardaan," she replied, her voice steady despite the earlier turmoil.
With that, she followed Raj out, her heart a mix of gratitude and lingering admiration for the man who had unexpectedly become a source of strength for her.
