Part 8 AKA Epilogue

Shui's POV:

I suddenly woke up with a start. I tried moving, but winced as i did. I looked at myself and saw the damage done: my wings crooked and covered in charred feathers and smoke, my tail singed and bits of wood cascaded all over my plumage. Even my neck was broken. Then i heard footsteps headed towards me. I closed my eyes, not wanting to see who it was.

"Lady Shui? Are you in there?" A familiar voice called.

"Master Crane?" I whispered. I looked over and saw him come to me. I could tell he had a fair share of injuries from the battle. He had it better than i did.

"I came by to say thank you." He said.

"For what?" I asked.

"For saving us back there. Twice." He explained.

"I thought it was a little more than that." I chuckled. Then he sighed.

"I have a confession to make, Shui." He said. I was surprised. No one called me by my name without saying 'lady' first. Not since my parents died.

"What is it?" I asked him. 

"The reason i said nothing when we first met was because i knew who you were but you were more beautiful than people described." I blushed at that. "Then when you released my pals and i at the palace, you reminded me of myself. So confident. From beak to feet and the other way around. Then when we were captured yet again, i knew what you were going to do and returned the favor. You saved us time and again and didn't get much in return." He stopped when i was ready for more.

I sighed and explained, "i didn't expect much in return for my actions, to be honest, being royaty and all." Then he suddenly embraced me softly, just so he doesn't make my condition worse.

"You're more than royalty, Shui." He said. "You're the love of my life." Then he connected his beak to mine. I didn't expect that, but i eventually welcomed it. Then our beaks separated. 

'That... was awesome.' I thought.

"Well, i must get back to training." He said and headed out.

"Wait!" I shouted. That stopped him as he turned around. I said, "Maybe after i get better, we could train together sometime."

"Sounds great." He said. "See you then, Your Grace." He nodded in respect and left. I sighed as i looked at the ceiling right above me, thinking about what the future may hold.

As i started to get sleepy, i closed my eyes and thought, 'i love being a peacock.'
