Kevin sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the faint light creeping in from the curtains. His hand rested on his stomach, the weight of the news sinking in deeper with each passing second. Pregnant. He never thought he'd find himself in this situation, especially not with Nico.

They had always been... something. Ever since Nico signed with his new team for 2025, what started as heated moments, teasing remarks, and lingering stares had spiraled into something far more intimate. Hooking up had become almost a regular occurrence, yet they'd never talked about what they actually were. It was easier that way, wasn't it? No labels, no expectations. But now, with this new life growing inside him, things were different.

Kevin sighed, brushing his fingers across the slight swell of his abdomen. He wasn't showing yet, but he could feel it. The nervous flutter of excitement mixed with fear gnawed at him constantly. How would Nico react? Hell, how did he even feel about it? All Kevin knew was that he didn't have to worry about a seat next season—small mercies, at least he wouldn't have to pull out of the racing world for this.

But Nico... Would he want this? Would he freak out? Kevin wasn't sure if their undefined relationship could survive something like this.

At the factory the next day, Kevin caught Nico's eyes on him more than once. He wasn't acting any different—at least, he didn't think so—but Nico was always sharp, always observant. He must've noticed how Kevin kept subconsciously resting his hand on his belly, a subtle habit he'd picked up since learning the truth.

Kevin's pulse was hammering in his ears, the quiet of the factory suddenly feeling oppressive. The Germans' presence, usually something steady and dependable, was now a weight he didn't know how to carry. Every word, every glance felt loaded with unspoken truths.

"Everything alright, Kev?"

That voice—the familiar calm, edged with concern—broke through Kevin's thoughts like a knife. Nico always had a way of sounding so composed, so in control, even when the world around them was spinning out of hand. It was what Kevin liked—no, loved—about him. But that same cool composure also terrified him now. What if it all disappeared when he knew?

Kevin's fingers twitched, and he forced them to drop from where they had lingered over his belly. The sensation had become almost instinctual, a protective gesture, but one that could give everything away if he wasn't careful.

"Yeah, just still tired," he muttered, not daring to meet Nico's gaze. His voice felt thin, fragile, like it could shatter under the weight of the lie.

Silence stretched between them, thick and uncomfortable. The Dane could feel Nico's eyes still on him, sharp and unrelenting. He'd always had this way of seeing through Kevin's defenses, picking apart the layers until there was nothing left but the truth. It was how they'd gone from bitter rivals to whatever this was—a messy entanglement of bodies and emotions that neither of them had really defined.

Nico took a step forward, closing the distance between them. Kevin could feel the shift in the air, the familiar warmth of Nico's presence making his skin prickle. His pulse sped up, but not in the usual way. This wasn't the heat of lust, the fiery connection that had drawn them together in stolen moments over the past months. This was different—heavier, more real.

"Tired, huh?" Nico's voice was low, skeptical. Kevin didn't need to turn around to know that Nico's brows were furrowed, lips pressed in that way he did when he knew something wasn't right. "You've been off lately."

Kevin tried to focus on the task in front of him, but his hands felt clumsy, his mind racing. How could he possibly explain what was really going on? How could he tell Nico that the thing growing inside him had changed everything?

He swallowed hard, trying to keep his voice steady. "Long week. You know how it is."

But Nico wasn't buying it. He never did.

Kevin felt Nico move closer, the warmth of his body now almost brushing against his back. The proximity made Kevin's heart stutter, his breath catching in his throat. Normally, he would have turned, thrown some cocky remark over his shoulder, but today, the words failed him.

Nico's hand found his lower back, gentle but firm, grounding him in the moment. Kevin's breath hitched. It was just a simple touch, but it sent a jolt of emotion straight to his chest. This wasn't just some fling, no matter how much they had avoided defining it. It was more. And the thought of losing that, of losing Nico, twisted Kevin's insides into knots.

"You're holding something back," Nico said quietly, his voice almost too soft, too careful. There was a rawness in it, like he was afraid of what he might hear. "What's going on, Kev?"

The words hung in the air, heavy and expectant. Kevin could feel the truth rising in his throat, the urge to just say it, to stop dancing around the inevitable. He wanted to tell Nico, wanted to feel that moment of connection, of understanding. But fear clamped down hard. What if Nico didn't want this? What if the baby ruined whatever fragile thing they had built between them?

Kevin could barely meet Nico's gaze when he finally turned around. The concern in Nico's eyes cut through him, making it harder to breathe. This wasn't some casual thing anymore. Kevin couldn't pretend that this didn't mean anything, not when the weight of their connection hung between them like this.

"I..." Kevin swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry. He wanted to tell him—he really did—but the words wouldn't come. He felt like he was on the edge of a cliff, ready to jump, but frozen by the fear of what lay below.

Nico's hand slipped from his back, but he didn't move away. Instead, he took a small step back, giving Kevin just enough space to breathe. His eyes softened, that fierce intensity giving way to something more vulnerable.

"If something's wrong..." Nico hesitated, as if choosing his words carefully. "You'll tell me, right? Like you promised?"

Kevin nodded, but the lump in his throat only grew. He wanted to believe his own promise, but the truth was, he wasn't sure he could. Not yet. Not when the stakes were so high.

"I will," Kevin said quietly, though his voice cracked under the weight of the lie.

For a moment, Nico didn't move, didn't say anything. His eyes lingered on Kevin, like he was searching for something deeper, something Kevin wasn't ready to show. Then, with a slow, almost reluctant nod, he turned to leave.

Kevin watched him go, his hand instinctively drifting back to his stomach. He could feel the life growing inside him, a life that was already so deeply intertwined with Nico's—even if Nico didn't know it yet.

As the door clicked shut behind him, Kevin let out a shaky breath. He rested both hands on his stomach now, the fear, the uncertainty, and the quiet hope swirling together in his chest.

He wasn't sure how much longer he could keep this a secret. And when the truth finally came out, everything would change.
