Chapter 3: Hidden Truths
Ananya couldn't believe she'd agreed to dinner with Dev. As she drove home, her mind replayed their conversations. She was drawn to his charisma, but wary of his arrogance.
That evening, Ananya's mother, Sudha, noticed her daughter's distraction. "What's on your mind, beta?"
Ananya hesitated before sharing stories of Dev. Sudha's expression turned serious.
"Ananya, be cautious. The Mehras and Sharmas... our families haven't gotten along for generations."
Ananya frowned. "What do you mean?"
Sudha sighed. "Old business rivalries, bitter disputes. It's best to keep your distance from Dev Mehra."
Ananya's curiosity piqued. "What happened?"
Sudha's eyes clouded. "Your grandfather and Dev's grandfather were once partners. But a bitter falling out tore them apart. The feud has continued ever since."
Ananya's heart sank. She hadn't known.
The next evening, Dev picked her up for dinner. Over food, they laughed and debated, their connection growing stronger.
As the night drew to a close, Dev walked Ananya home. Under the stars, he turned to her.
"Ananya, I really enjoy your company. But I sense there's something holding you back."
Ananya hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. "Dev, our families... do you know about the feud?"
Dev's expression turned somber. "Yes. My father told me stories."
Ananya searched his eyes. "Do you think it's silly?"
Dev's voice softened. "I think our families' past shouldn't dictate our future."
Ananya's heart skipped a beat. No one had ever understood her like that.
As Dev leaned in, Ananya's pulse quickened. Their lips almost touched when-
"Ananya!" Sudha's voice called from the balcony.
Ananya pulled back, flustered. "My mom."
Dev smiled wryly. "Guess I've been officially warned off."
Ananya's eyes locked onto his. "Maybe we shouldn't give up yet."
Dev's gaze burned with intensity. "I won't. Will you?"
Ananya nodded, her heart racing.
Little did they know, their forbidden love was only the beginning of a tumultuous journey.
