Shin woke up without the sound of his alarm.

When the sun's first warm rays kissed the skin beneath his cheeks, he sleepily opened his eyes.

Then shot up, because he was supposed to be awake to catch the bus before the sun had even risen.

Shin Tsukimi, at age twenty, was going to be late to class.

Again.

He jumped out of bed, grabbed his phone which had died in the night — that explained why his alarm hadn't gone off — and ran to his closet to grab some clothes. He jumped around, trying to get into his fresh clothes faster, then ran out of his room, barely remembering to grab his backpack before exiting his apartment.

Shin's hands fumbled as he unlocked his bike. He wasn't sure what time it was since his phone was dead and he never invested in any other kind of clock, but either way, he knew he'd be late. The university he attended was several miles away, and he had his backpack weighing down his movement.

Eventually, he made it. By some will of god, he arrived at the building before his class had started, but he only had a few minutes until he'd be marked late. He rushed to the hall his class was in, and ran through the hallway.

Of course, that spelled disaster. He ran into you, a business major who couldn't get their day started until they'd had their morning coffee. Him crashing into you popped open the lid to your coffee and spilt it all over your clothes. "Ah!" You tried to keep in a scream, but your coffee had been freshly made and hot.

Shin's eyes widened realizing the mess he'd made. Suddenly, he had more pressing matters to deal with than making it to class in time. You bit hard on your fist, trying not to cause a scene and scream, despite the fact you'd definitely been burned by your drink.

"I-I'm so sorry!" Shin said breathlessly. He looked around, then grabbed you by the hand and dragged you to the nearby single-stall bathroom. He closed the door behind you and immediately grabbed some paper towels, attempting to rub at the coffee that'd stained your white t-shirt.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry!" He kept repeating. You grabbed his hands gently, shockingly cold compared to his hot skin from biking several miles in a short amount of time, and pulled them away from you, taking the paper towels from him.

"I-It's fine... I'm a little... burnt... but I'm... it's really fine..." You responded.

"God, I'm so sorry... I'll pay for your dry cleaning or for a new coffee or whatever... I'm really sorry."

"Listen," You said, attempting to wring out your shirt over the sink, "It's fine... I don't... You don't have to do any of that but... if you really insist, then... Maybe we can go on a coffee date sometime. Your treat, or whatever."

Shin nodded his head rapidly, "I am... really sorry. Are you sure that's all you want?"

You turned to face him. His face was pale but there were blotches of redness and he looked like he genuinely felt shitty.

He was kinda cute, too.

"Really... just that is fine. I can... give you my number and we can figure it out a little later. I think you have a class you're late for."

Shin's eyes widened and he quickly patted around his legs looking for his phone in his pockets. After pulling it out and attempting to turn it on, he remembered he hadn't charged it. "Uh... my phone is dead."

You handed him your phone and he quickly input his number. He apologized once more before scrambling out of the bathroom and toward his classroom.

Only halfway through his class did he realize you specifically requested a coffee date.
