The light and moist breaths were ambiguously brushing against the sensitive nerves behind her ears, making that patch of skin covered with goosebumps. Cynthia's lips trembled violently, and her eyes were filled with horror. Like a small animal whose fatal spot has been pinched, she didn't dare to move at all.

A pair of hands pinched her waist and turned the frozen her around, forcing her to lean closer and nestle in his arms.

Unlike the image of crawling on all fours in her imagination, although this body belongs to a monster, it has an upright structure like a human being.

Every second seemed to be a repeat of her nightmare. It turns out that everything is predestined, and everything is an omen in the dark. The only difference is that in that dream, for what happened later, in addition to fear, a trace of shameful enjoyment also emerged in her. But in reality, being pressed close to a bloodthirsty monster, under the real sense of oppression, fear and panic are enough to overwhelm all her amorous thoughts.

Her hands were pressed between the two of them and were forced to press against his rough chest. This hunting posture that tightly binds her doesn't seem like it's going to send her away at all. Instead, it's more like suddenly changing his mind and wanting to devour her on the spot.

Cynthia's eyes were misty, and a very faint whimper came from her throat. The thought of "even if I die, I should be mentally prepared" vaguely flashed through her mind, and a ridiculous plea for mercy blurted out: "Can you knock me out before eating me? I'm afraid of pain."

In Berial's words, this monster seems to be very intelligent and can communicate with people. But in Cynthia's imagination, he should be very similar to the ugly four-legged demon that appeared in the library and chased her all the way here, with animal nature prevailing. So, she didn't expect the other party to stop and listen to the struggles of her as prey before enjoying the big meal.

Unexpectedly, the other party's movements suddenly stopped.

Cynthia instinctively held her breath.

After a moment, a deep and magnetic voice sounded above her head and said slowly, "I have no interest in human flesh."

Cynthia was stunned.

This voice is rather pleasant to hear. Moreover, this monster actually really has the ability to communicate like a human being. Somehow, after discovering this, although Cynthia was still afraid, the almost paralyzing despair subsided a little.

Although she couldn't see clearly, she also felt the other party's gaze roaming over her face. Suddenly, her lips felt a chill. It seemed that his finger was pressed against her lips and stroked intimately. Cynthia didn't dare to resist at all. After a while, this monster said casually again, "Even without taking in any food, I am an eternal being."

In that tone, there seemed to be a bit of arrogance mixed in, as if it was a supplementary explanation for not eating human flesh earlier.

Cynthia was a bit absent-minded.

As long as it is a demon, it needs to take in food. Could it be that the monster embracing her is not a demon in the traditional sense?

If the monster underground doesn't eat people, then is it possible that in those widely spread and terrifying legends of man-eating monsters, he is not the culprit at all?

He emphasized that he doesn't eat people. Could it be that he wants to tell her that he won't harm her?

Cynthia hesitated for a moment, raised her head, and said uneasily, "Will you really send me away from here?"

"Of course, as you wish." The monster lowered his head and leaned close to her ear: "But I have additional conditions."

"I... I know. Berial has already told me. I promise you."

As soon as Cynthia agreed, a wave of sleepiness surged over like a tide. In the end, she only vaguely heard his voice ringing in her mind.

"I will leave a mark on you. The aura remaining on it will make many things dare not disturb you. When it completely disappears, it will be the time for you to fulfill your promise and come back to me."

In all kinds of stories compiled by people, gods are always merciful and great, and they save the common people without asking for anything in return.

But devils are much greedier and more calculating. He will generously give you many things you have always dreamed of, including supreme status, inexhaustible money, rare beauties, reputation and admiration, lifespan and good fortune. As you can imagine, he never does business at a loss. All transactions have their prices marked in the dark long ago.

Although people know that asking the devil for something will cost a price, there are still so many people who are deceived by his sweet words and unknowingly sign a contract of sale. Of course, there are also many people who buy on credit. Some are purely greedy, while others wake up from being bewitched and feel afraid belatedly. They think that as long as they hide in a place where no one knows, they can avoid that evil thing that comes to ask for payment.

The devil already has an understanding of human nature. Therefore, in legends, he will leave a mark on every person who has traded with him. Even if they escape to the ends of the earth, these people will also be pushed by fate to return to the devil and pay the promised remuneration. No credit is allowed.

When she woke up, Cynthia found herself lying on a sofa in the previous  king's palace, placed in a supine position.
