A/N: Ashy, you're a Clan leader now!
Deputy and Warrior
CRYSTALPAW POV
Today was the day of probably the third most important event of my life. Number one was meeting Ashfur, number two will be Squirrelflight's death, and today was number three. Today was the warrior assessment. I knew Ashfur wasn't going to fail me, but I was still honestly terrified.
I had been stalking a mouse, and I had caught it, but it had taken forever. Ashfur was not happy with my stalking. "Crystalpaw, you need to stalk faster. You can run, right? Now run while stalking."
"Alright, Crystalpaw. Go get your littermates Darkpaw and Sparrowpaw, we're ready to begin the assessment!" Ashfur, as the new deputy, yowled. He was going to test us, along with my littermate's mentors.
I disliked my littermates. Sparrowpaw was alright, but Darkpaw was quite annoying and I tried to steer clear of them. Sparrowpaw's bright excited green eyes and very bright orange pelt was an eyesore, and it also reminded me of Squirrelflight, but other than that she was pretty nice.
Darkpaw was pure black with such alert amber eyes that you would expect him to be speedy and easily provoked. You would be wrong. Darkpaw was slower than a one-legged badger and was half-blind, no offense to Jayfeather and Brightheart.
We headed off into the forest. "Alright, we should separate now. Remember that your mentor is watching." Ashfur mewed.
I saw a squirrel eating a beech nut. It seemed to be almost done. I crept quickly, thinking of Ashfur's lessons. I pounced and killed it in one swift bite. I considered thanking Starclan for good luck, but decided it was unneccesary.
After catching two squirrels and a magpie, it was time for fighting. I paired up with Darkpaw, which was wonderful, because he is so bad at fighting that I would seem better than I actually was.
I ran up a bit and pounced on him, miming slashing him with my claws sheathed.
It was glorious. He hardly had a chance to react before I mimed biting his neck off and won the battle in record time. Ashfur seemed unimpressed, but then again, he never was impressed, so it didn't mean much.
Now I paired up with Sparrowpaw. She was a little better than Darkpaw, but Hollyleaf, her mentor, seemed more focused on warrior code than on fighting. I was quite sure that Sparrowpaw knew all 16 warrior codes by heart and could recite them backward while being hanged upside down in a lake.
Ashfur on the other hand, had quickly run through the code second day of training and told me to study it on my own time.
Sparrowpaw leaped on top of me, But I was heavier and used my weight to throw her off. Sparrowpaw landed shakily and I pounced. Using the same strategy I used with Darkpaw, I slashed her. But Sparrowpaw was stronger than I expected, and she had caught me off guard. She leaped off and quickly leaped on my back. Then she mimed biting my neck off. Or rather, she attempted to.
I gathered all my energy in my haunches and sprang up, as Sparrowpaw fell on her exposed belly. I leaped on her and finished her off. I glanced at Ashfur for a moment. He was still unimpressed, but that was normal.
Now we were done with the assessment. Jayfeather made me run through some basic herbs like catnip and stuff. After that we were done, Ashfur ran to Firestar's den and told him the results. I was actually very nervous.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highledge for a Clan meeting!" Firestar yowled. The cats gathered.
"Today is one of the most important days in Clan life. The naming of a new warrior. Sparrowpaw, Darkpaw, and Crystalpaw, please step forward." Firestar recited. The three of us step forward, practically bouncing with excitement. "I, Firestar, leader of Thunderclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon these apprentices. They have trained hard in the ways of your noble code, and they will be warrior in their turn."
