The energy on set shifted the moment they saw him. Hwan appeared out of nowhere, striding toward the set with that cold, scrutinizing gaze that made everyone freeze up.
"Is that... Hwan?" Namjoon muttered under his breath, his expression darkening as the other members also spotted him.
"I thought he said he wasn't coming." Jungkook whispered.
Taehyung's heart sank. He knew the moment Hwan looked at him, it was going to be trouble. His breathing became shallow, and he instinctively pulled his shirt lower, hoping to hide the bandages and the discomfort beneath them. He forced a smile, trying to act natural, but his mind was racing.
Hwan's sharp eyes landed directly on Taehyung. "Taehyung, a word," he said flatly.
The other members went quiet, exchanging worried glances. Jungkook stepped forward, eyes narrowing. "Hyung, we're in the middle of filming—"
"It'll only take a minute," Hwan cut him off, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Taehyung, now."
Taehyung swallowed hard, his legs feeling like lead as he followed Hwan away from the set. He could feel the eyes of his hyungs on his back, their concern palpable, but they couldn't do anything. Hwan had authority, and they all knew it.
As soon as they were out of sight, Hwan's demeanor changed. His face twisted into a look of barely controlled rage. "What the hell was that back there?" he snapped, shoving Taehyung against the wall.
"I-I was playing. I'm just—" Taehyung stammered, his voice trembling as he tried to explain.
"Playing? You call that playing? You were sluggish, sloppy, like you weren't even trying." Hwan's hand tightened on Taehyung's collar, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I told you before, no one can see you slacking off. You're making the group look bad."
Taehyung winced, the pain in his stomach flaring up where the nail had scratched him earlier. He couldn't breathe properly, and his mind was screaming at him to say something, to defend himself, but the words wouldn't come.
"You want to ruin this for everyone?" Hwan hissed, his grip tightening before his fist connected with Taehyung's stomach. The force made him crumple to the ground, pain radiating from the fresh wound that hadn't even healed yet. Taehyung gasped, his vision blurring as he clutched his midsection, feeling the blood start to seep through the bandage again.
Hwan wasn't done. He kicked him hard in the side, and Taehyung bit his lip to stifle the cry of pain that threatened to escape. He couldn't scream. He couldn't let anyone hear. The iron taste of blood filled his mouth as he clenched his teeth, trying to keep quiet.
"Get up," Hwan demanded coldly, his voice devoid of any sympathy. "I don't care how you feel. You get back out there and act like everything's fine. Do you understand me?"
Taehyung didn't move at first. His body felt broken, like he couldn't breathe right, but he knew better than to defy Hwan. Slowly, with trembling hands, he pushed himself up onto his knees, his entire body screaming in protest. He felt light-headed, the world spinning around him as the pain flared with every movement.
Hwan knelt down next to him, his voice low and threatening. "If you tell anyone about this, I'll make sure the rest of your career is hell. You hear me, Taehyung?"
Taehyung nodded weakly, his head hanging low. He couldn't meet Hwan's eyes, couldn't even speak. His body was shaking uncontrollably now, and his breathing was uneven, but he forced himself to stay silent.
"Good," Hwan said, standing up and straightening his jacket like nothing had happened. "Now get yourself cleaned up and get back to work. And smile, for God's sake."
