Brooke
Once upon a time, dancing was a passion I'd let go, choosing to look after my mum and sister. The funds and the commitment it demanded weren't something I could afford if I wished to meet my family responsibilities. But since stepping foot in the club, I've more than made up for lost time. Dancing on top of the bar, losing myself in the rhythm with Kane and Linc at Seven, and tonight, showcasing my moves on stage with Tease.
The crowd is alive, their cheering an intoxicating melody that fills my ears, creating an inexplicable high. It's clear why Linc and the other dancers here are hooked on this adrenaline rush. To hear the crowd erupt and knowing I'm partly the reason for their excitement brings a sense of accomplishment, a purpose that I had once lost sight of. And to have Linc as my partner, officially, adds a layer of sweetness to this moment. The number of times I've envisioned us dancing together on this stage, it's too many to admit.
Linc lifts me and slips me through his legs, then pulls me up once again. As I face him, he swings my leg over his hip, our bodies swaying in a rhythmic dance with the rest of the performers. Then, bending me over, he moves in sync behind me before spinning me around.
I can't help but smile all the way through.
When the music fades, the applause is nearly earth-shaking, and my grin is uncontrollable. Tease has undoubtedly given everyone a performance to remember.
As the curtain drops, creating a divide between us and the crowd, Linc lifts me and tosses me into the air before catching me with ease and setting me back on my feet. Eager to hold on to him, I wrap my arms around his neck, stand on tiptoes, and lean in for a kiss. The mix of lust and adrenaline swirling inside me makes me shiver the moment his lips touch mine.
His eyes sparkle as he gazes at me, and I'm certain he can see just how thrilled and incredibly happy I am to be part of this with him.
"That was amazing," I say.
"You nailed it."
"I had a great partner."
"You did, huh?"
"Yeah, he's pretty good. A tad cocky, though."
He grins knowingly. "I remember when you confessed you love the way I dance."
Back then, it was hard to believe that the most irresistible man I'd ever laid eyes on—one whose dance moves could bring people to their knees with desire—was about to become my boss. I was tongue-tied, a mess of nerves. It was unquestionably a whirlwind of attraction at first glance, something I tried hard to suppress. But as I got to know him better, my liking for him grew, until he became not just a friend and a confidant, but also the person I wanted to be around all the time.
He wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me close. "Love you," he whispers.
No matter how many times he utters those words, my heart swells, filled with an uncontainable joy every time.
"I love you, too."
And then his lips are on mine again.
The rest of the dancers and staff have grown accustomed to seeing Linc and me together. Initially, some girls interpreted our relationship as a green light to try their luck at catching the boss's eye. But Linc has been as unwaveringly loyal to me as he is to this club. People have also come to realise that I'm not just the boss's girlfriend—I'm the accountant here. Linc wants me by his side.
"Dance with me later," Linc proposes, squeezing my hand. "I need to go touch base with security."
As I'm about to head into the break room for more water, a hand on my arm halts me. I turn, surprised to find Nate as the one who's stopped me. My relationship with Nate is... complex. He's the club's choreographer, closely involved in ensuring that I'm ready to perform with Tease. Moreover, he was instrumental in helping me uncover the actual ledger for the club.
