Omg_Heichou A/N I'm using general pronouns for Reader, it'll be more inclusive that way unless a bunch of people says they want it one way or another, in which case I might go back and edit it - unlikely that a bunch of people will rally up tho so

Erwin's POV:

I look intently at Levi's bored face, knowing that he was actually worried about the potential repercussions of me walking in on them, thinking about what punishments he would give in the situation. He was affecting that he didn't give a crap either way, purposely not making eye contact with me.

Levi's POV:

"I'm not going to break you up."

My ears perk up a bit at that, but I avoid looking directly at Erwin, knowing that would give away how much I truly cared.

"...nothing illegal technically happened, so I'm not going to cut off contact between you and Petra," he continues. He looks away, straightening the towering stack papers on his desk, "Anyway, the reason I went to your office was so I could ask you to temporarily lend Petra's assistance to me. As you can see, I'm falling behind a bit due to the preparations for the upcoming expedition.

"However, because of this," he paused, "incident, I will assign someone else to help you part-time, but Petra will still be allowed to help you. Petra, and whoever I decide to choose for this task, will split their day between assisting me, you, standard training, and meals."

I flick my gaze towards Erwin, staring directly into his sharp blue eyes and curtly nod to imply that this arrangement barely passed as satisfactory.

Erwin's POV:

I returned his steely gaze, and with a warning tone stated, "However if your relationship with Petra hampers or distracts you from your work, I will remove her as your assistant." Levi didn't respond, so I added, "Understand?"

"I understand," he grunted, looking out the window again.

I looked away as my hand darts out to catch the sliding paperwork yet again and sigh. "Levi, you're dismissed, go have dinner, Petra should have eaten by now. Tell her to come in so I can talk to her."

I glance up at Levi, who nods once, standing up to leave, "Understood. And Erwin? Shave your fucking eye-caterpillars, sir," his lip twitching upwards amusedly.

"As soon as you can talk to me without having to yell so I can hear, Cleaning Faerie," I shoot back smoothly.

The Faerie himself snorts and turns to exit the room. I sigh, facing the towering stack of forms on my desk, resolving to get at least 2 done before Petra arrives.

Petra's POV:

I sit in the mess hall, jittering in my seat. I had hardly eaten anything, and I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened barely an hour before. My face flushed as I thought about Erwin's eyes flicking down to my unbuttoned pants, and the look in his eyes as he put it all together.

Supper was almost over and there was no sign of Levi, surely the Commander wouldn't be too hard on him... But he's such a hardass, even for his second in command it's no guarantee.

I sighed, staring off into my bland meal when I noticed a familiar stormy aura approach as the room quieted. Levi walks directly up to me without pausing, his permanently sober face bringing a smile to mine, as worried as I was.

"Petra, the Commander will speak to you now," he says quietly.

"Oh.. Alright," I stand up to leave, biting my lip. Levi notices my tension, and he catches my wrist, holding it. Warmth radiates from his hand to my skin for a moment before he lets go, speaking again.

"Don't worry, it's not so bad," he speaks simply, his voice resonating reassuringly. I smile at his attempt to comfort me. I give a short nod, although it probably came off as tense, I believed Erwin wouldn't be too harsh...right?

Walking away with the lingering warmth of Levi's hand on my arm, I head for Erwin's room.

~~

Erwin's POV:

My handwriting was getting blurry - no, that was the room - no, the room is dark - Shit.

I dragged my eyes open yet again, internally chastising myself for nodding off for what must have been the second time in 5 minutes. I finished the paper I had been working on, and my thoughts turned to the alternate assistant... it would have to be someone capable on the field, so helping out wouldn't interfere with their training. They would also have to have skill actually assisting effectively.

I absentmindedly reached a hand out to my coffee cup needing another shot of caffeine to startle my consciousness. Unfortunately, the cold, dry cup was empty. I huffed, leaning back in my chair. Cadet Ackerman was definitely a valuable asset, but it seemed dangerous to leave the two Ackermans in a room together... They had a spark, nothing like the romantic one of Petra and Levi, and more like a dark explosion about to occur.

Cadet Arlert definitely had the brains required, but I quickly dismissed him as an option - he was one who needed every moment of training he could get.

Cadet (L/n). Hm. There was real skill in the field with them, not like Ackerman had - either of them - or even Jeager's foolhardy determination, but more than enough to hold (his/her) own.

My eyes flitted back to my empty coffee cup and I pondered if I'd have time to get a refill before Petra came when a knock interrupted my thoughts.

"Petra Ral, you wanted to see me, Commander?" a slightly shaky voice sounded from behind the door.

I straightened the perpetually leaning tower of papers and files on my desk and responded, "Please come in," Petra walks into my office and takes a seat, folding her hands in her lap, glancing all around the room, except at me.

I address her again, noticing her clear anxiety, "Petra, what I witnessed earlier today was not at all appropriate for a work setting," she cringes. "However, I understand your and Levi's involvement and trust that this does not interfere with your work. You will not be separated," she lets out a small breath.

"I will have to take a disciplinary action, so your time with Levi as his assistant will be cut in half, split with another cadet. I could also use your help around here, so you will report here for mornings, switching after lunch, or whatever schedule necessary," I flick my eyes to the heavy stack weighing down the corner of my desk. "The other cadet still has to be informed of this decision - but the details will be kept discreet," I added noting the flare of panic in her eyes.

I paused before continuing, "...If something like this incident were to occur again while on the clock, I will have to remove you as Levi's assistant. Please make sure this is not necessary."

"Yes, thank you for being so understanding, Commander," Petra half-smiles gently, clearly relieved.

"Of course. Now, it's rather late, but I'd rather have the other assistant notified as soon as possible... Petra, before you return to your quarters for the night, would you fetch Cadet (L/n)? You're dismissed."

"Of course sir," she addressed me with a polite nod. Petra stands to leave.

"Oh, and Petra?" She pauses, hand on the door. "Ask Cadet (L/n) to bring me a cup of coffee, please,"

A/N: Sorry for not updating, this fanfic grew irrelevant in my mind and no one really seemed to care about it- due to a comment by Omg_Heichou left on the first chapter, I've decided to re-continue it. I know this is probably not satisfactory, but I had this on hold for a while and with finals coming up, wanted to post this beforehand so you had something to look forward to.
