Truth stood at the edge of the forest, his heart racing as he looked at the moonlit clearing ahead. The air smelled fresh, like pine and earth, but everything felt strange and dreamlike. He had been here before, he was sure of it, even though he couldn't remember when or why. He touched the bark of a nearby tree, trying to feel grounded, but something inside him urged him to step into the light.
Taking a breath, he moved forward as if following a path he hadn't planned. As he entered the clearing, he saw her.
Moon.
She stood in the silver light, her long hair flowing gently in the breeze, her eyes shining like the stars above. Truth's heart raced when their eyes met. He had never seen her in real life, yet there was a feeling of knowing her. It felt like a memory he couldn't quite grasp.
"Do I know you?" he asked, his voice quiet, almost afraid to disturb the peace.
Moon smiled, a mix of sadness and warmth on her face. "I think we've met before, in another dream."
Those words sent a chill through Truth. Another dream? He had experienced dreams like this before-clear and real. Always with her. He felt a strong connection but could never remember the details when he woke up. It left him with an empty feeling, a longing for something-or someone-he couldn't reach.
"I feel like I've known you forever," Truth said softly, taking a step closer.
Moon stayed still, her eyes watching him. "We find each other every time," she said, her voice soft like the wind through the trees. "But we never remember, do we?"
Truth frowned. He wanted to say no, that he did remember, but deep down, he knew he didn't. He only had bits and pieces-faint feelings and images that faded as soon as he woke up.
"What happens when we wake up?" he asked, feeling a mix of fear and hope.
Moon looked up at the stars, which seemed to pulse with their heartbeat. "We forget," she said quietly. "Until the next dream."
Truth felt a tightness in his chest. Forget? How could he forget someone so important? Everything inside him rebelled against the idea of losing this moment, of losing her.
"I don't want to forget you," he said firmly, more determined now. "Not again."
Moon's eyes softened, but there was sadness there too. She reached out, her fingers just brushing against his. "Neither do I," she whispered. "But we will. We always do."
