A sneeze escaped your mouth as you reached for your ninth tissue in five minutes, while a warm hand rubbed circles on your back, and you turned to look at Kaldur.

"Thank you so much for staying with me. It really does help me get better," you said, your nose making your voice sound weird.

"Of course, (Y/N). What are friends for?" He asked, handing you your glass of water.
"Boy-friend, you mean," you corrected. He smiled.
"But of course."

The gray haze over your brain lifted as you saw him smile, just that little gesture making you all the better. The dimly lit living room around you was filled with movies, pillows, blankets, and tissues, as per your boyfriend's insistence. You hated getting sick, as you rarely did. But oh, when a new virus came around and you actually caught it: it gave you an uppercut to the face. You were barely able to breathe using your nose, and the heaviness behind your eyes seemed to grow by the hour. It was the purest form of torture.

Luckily for you, the team hasn't had any new missions assigned yet, so you don't feel guilty for being sick, and Kaldur doesn't have to choose between you or the team.

The VHS of The Little Mermaid clicked and the screen went black, signifying that the credits had finished rolling.
"What next?" Your boyfriend asked, picking up a stack of videos and DVDs on his left.
"Eh, I might just take a nap. My eyes are getting pretty heavy," you explained, turning to lay your head down on a pillow resting on Kaldur'ahm's lap. His fingers ran through your hair, and then he laid his head back too.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

You slowly lifted your eyelids to fill your pupils with light, but you were taken aback at how bright it was.
"Wow, I must have slept for a long time. It's probably around noon now," you said aloud, sitting up and rubbing your eyes. Your adorable boyfriend was still sleeping and slightly snoring, so you got up to get a drink by yourself.

Blood rushed to your head as soon as you put a foot on the ground, though. You slapped a hand to your forehead and sat down again, feeling very dizzy.

'Oh great,' you thought, 'now I can't even get up.'
Your veins were pulsing, and you groaned. Which was apparently enough to wake up Kaldur.

"(Y/N)? What's wrong, are you hurt?" Ughhhh his sleepy voice was hoottt.
"N-no, I'm fine. I just got up too fast," you explained, slowly putting your head back down on the couch.

"If you needed something, you could have woken me," he said, shrugging.
"Kaldur. I can't be that dependent on you, that's not fair to you."

"Why not? I don't mind. Normally, you are beyond capable of taking care of yourself, but you are very sick. It is my duty to take care of you," he declared, taking hold of your hand.
"Your duty, Kaldur, is to be a good boyfriend, which you have way surpassed by now. A normal boyfriend would bring me soup and watch a movie with me, and call to check on me now and then."

"What do we know about normal?"
"We don't need to bring our powers into this."
"Our powers make us who we are. We cannot cast them aside in every conversation and pretend like we do not have any," he insisted, slipping his hand from yours and putting it on his thigh. "I know how much you wish to be like other humans, but..... you aren't human. Not fully. You cannot wish to walk among others that are not your kind."

You sighed. It always came down to this. Every argument that you had-and you've had your share of arguments with him- ended up being about you wanting a normal life, and him shooting down that hope.
"Kaldur, my powers can make me look normal. Doesn't that count for something?"
