••••••••••••••••••••••••

Katrina laid still on the bed with her eyes  barely open. The nurses had checked her vitals, cleaned her up and left the room.
Where's Houston or Bill?

"Katrina " she heard her name

Her eyes finally open

"Holy crap"

she let out reluctantly but with fear in her pitch while trying to sit upright.
She stared at the man before her, Dubrow.

He stared back with bloodshot eyes scrutinizing her in the white hospital gown she had on

"I've given you enough time Kat"  giving an icky smirk he took a seat.
"How long did you plan on carrying on this charade"

All she could see was the floor as she did her best to avoid eye contact with the man sitting beside her to prevent her from having to give an explanation.

The new life she thought she had started was nothing but a distant memory. She had a feeling the man next to her was responsible for why she was lying pathetically in that very dim and horribly painted hospital room.

"Unfortunately that dunce shot you as well. But you'll be fine, right Kat" his sadistic smile widened.

She bit her lower lip as her thoughts immediately ran back to the fact that Bill and Houston weren't with her.
Guilt rose up, she would blame herself if anything happened to either one of them.

"Where are they?" She said with a tear running down her face

"That should be my business Katrina. Come back. I've got a better space for you, you've always been the best we have Kat don't throw this chance away"

'Fuck you and the whole team" she spat

Dubrow owned this agency that did dirty jobs for the government.
He used everyone of them on the team, pushing them to their limits.
He'd dumped them once it felt right.
Walking over to her he stroke her soft black hair that over covered her left eye

"There's a big one Kat and I've chosen you for it"

"Where are they?"  She screamed in anger this time.
Everything about him itched her soul.

"Poor Kat"

His hands moved to her chin lifting it up
She didn't resist not like she could. She looked at him remaining silent.

"They're probably gone"

Her eyes shut tight.

Dubrow tugged his hands in his pocket and walked towards the door
This was not the Katrina he trained, she had gone soft.

"I hope you didn't think I was going to let you just walk out the door" he said whilst proceeding out the door.

Two things got stuck in her already twisted mind.
The first being that the agency wanted her back which apparently was under any circumstances which means that she literally had no choice and the second, they were gone!

She got tired of the job and left.
She planned to settle down
Live a normal life.

Sinking down into the bed she sighed.
She knew nothing about Houston.
They met at a coffee shop down her place
Quite taller than Bill, a very sharp and taunting physique. She compared them instantly as she watched him every morning.
He was probably new around and came to the coffee shop every morning at the same time.
Sat three tables away from her.
And his order was always the same.
One morning she skipped the coffee shop and later that evening he was at her door.

"You weren't at the coffee shop today ma'am"
That was the first time he'd spoken to her.
She stared at him in his black sweatpants, a black shirt with rolled up sleeves.

"Helloo" he smirked
"Sorry... How did you find me?"
"Just a tiny secret I won't tell"

He was a freaking stranger
"Who sent you?...I have a knife with me!" She sounded like a 5 year old
Holding up his hands in the air
"I mean no harm" he winked
"That's so hot! " She tried to resist the thought but how could she?

After that night they met up everyday
Talking and taking walks.
The talked about nothing in particular
And the deep talks were just about her.
He always listened and was well equipped with the right words to say at every given time.

He made her feel too many emotions.
That night creeping back to her
How did he get the key?

Bill on the other hand helped her get the apartment she had made her home. He loved her and she knew it. She considered him a bit hypocritical, especially about how far he took his religion.
She met with his family a couple times. She knew his mum like she was hers. Bill's mother was the sweetest lady she'd known that wasn't her mother.

He proposed and she said yes.

The tingling pain below her rib cage where she'd been shot brought her back to the realization that she was still in the hospital and needed to leave before Dubrow came back or the police or anyone else.

Pulling out the leads from her hand, she stood up from the bed, not sure what time it was and how busy the hospital was.

"Ma'am you need to get back in bed"
A nurse walked in with a tray

Sorry. Kat whispered quickly taking the tray from her.

"Bang"
