The following week blurred by in a mix of work deadlines and sporadic texts from Changbin. We didn't have plans to see each other until the weekend, but that didn't stop him from sending me a random meme or asking about my day. It was a nice rhythm we had settled into, where nothing felt rushed or forced, but still meaningful.

Friday night rolled around, and I was just settling in for a quiet evening with Netflix when my phone buzzed. Changbin's name flashed across the screen, and I smiled as I swiped to open the message.

Changbin: Hey, you free tonight?

I hesitated. The plan was to meet up tomorrow, but the idea of seeing him tonight made my stomach flutter with anticipation.

Me: Yeah, I'm just home. Why, what's up?

His response came quickly.

Changbin: Some friends are hanging out at this rooftop bar, and I thought maybe you'd want to come? No pressure, though.

I bit my lip, debating. Meeting his friends felt like a new step, something I hadn't expected to happen so soon. But at the same time, the thought of being around him—even with his friends—was tempting.

Me: Sure, why not? What time?

Changbin: I'll pick you up in 30?

My heart raced a little at the thought of stepping into his world more. Meeting friends meant being more visible in his life, like this wasn't just a casual thing. But I shook off the nerves as best I could and got ready, changing into something casual but cute—a pair of jeans and a black top that I knew made me feel confident.

By the time Changbin arrived, my nerves had mostly settled. I spotted him from the window again, and like before, my stomach did a little flip when I saw him standing there, waiting.

As I stepped outside, Changbin smiled, his eyes flicking over me appreciatively. "You look great," he said as I walked up to him.

"You're not so bad yourself," I teased, my heart lightening at the familiar banter.

He opened the car door for me, and once I was inside, we were on our way. The drive was filled with easy conversation, the city lights flashing by as we navigated toward the rooftop bar. But underneath it all, I could feel a slight shift in the air—like this night might mark a change in whatever we had going on between us.

The rooftop bar was stunning, with soft lighting and a view of the city that seemed to stretch on forever. The space was filled with groups of people, laughter and music blending into the night air. It was lively but not overwhelming, the perfect balance of fun and chill.

As we stepped out of the elevator and onto the rooftop, I felt Changbin's hand brush against mine, and for a moment, I thought he was going to take it. But instead, he gestured toward a table where a group of people was already seated.

"There they are," he said, leading the way.

I followed close behind, trying to shake off the nerves that crept back up now that we were about to meet his friends. It was one thing to spend time with Changbin one-on-one, but this felt different—more vulnerable.

Changbin introduced me to his friends, a group of easy-going people who made me feel welcome almost immediately. There was Seungmin, who was apparently as obsessed with puns as Changbin, and Minho, who had this cool, laid-back vibe but was quick with a teasing remark. There were a few others, and soon, we were all chatting and laughing, the initial awkwardness melting away faster than I expected.

"You're the one Changbin's been talking about," Minho said at one point, shooting Changbin a knowing smirk across the table.

Changbin gave him a look but didn't deny it, and that small exchange sent a ripple of warmth through me. He'd been talking about me to his friends? That felt... significant.

The night moved quickly, drinks flowing and stories being exchanged. I could see why Changbin was friends with these people—there was a comfort and ease in how they all interacted, like they had known each other for years. And somehow, even though I was the new person at the table, they made me feel like I belonged.

At some point, Changbin leaned in closer, his voice just loud enough for me to hear over the music. "You doing okay? I know this is a lot all at once."

I smiled at his concern, appreciating how he was checking in with me. "Yeah, I'm good. Your friends are great."

He grinned, clearly relieved. "They're idiots, but they grow on you."

I laughed, shaking my head. "Well, they've definitely made me feel welcome."

We shared a look, and in that moment, something unspoken passed between us again—something that made my heart skip. But before I could process it, Seungmin called out Changbin's name, dragging him back into the conversation.

As the night went on, the group started to thin out. People left one by one, until it was just Changbin, Minho, and me still sitting at the table. Minho had moved on to teasing Changbin about some inside joke, and though I didn't quite follow all the details, I couldn't help but laugh along.

Eventually, Minho stood up, stretching. "Alright, I'm heading out. You two lovebirds enjoy the rest of your night."

I blinked, caught off guard by the comment, but Changbin just rolled his eyes, unbothered. "Later, man."

When Minho was gone, the rooftop felt quieter, more intimate. I could feel the shift in the atmosphere again, like the weight of the night was settling in on both of us.

Changbin turned to me, his expression softening. "Thanks for coming tonight. I know meeting friends can be... a lot."

"I had a really good time," I said, and I meant it. "Your friends are awesome. They weren't what I expected."

He raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What did you expect?"

"I don't know... maybe something more intimidating," I teased, nudging his shoulder. "But they're pretty chill."

He laughed, his eyes crinkling in that way that made my heart flutter. "Yeah, they're alright."

There was a moment of silence, and then Changbin's expression shifted, becoming more serious. "I'm glad you fit in with them," he said quietly. "It means a lot to me."

My heart sped up at his words, something about the way he said it making my chest tighten in the best way. "It means a lot that you wanted me to meet them."

He smiled, but there was something more behind it—something that made the air between us feel charged. And before I knew what I was doing, I found myself leaning just a little closer, the space between us shrinking.

Changbin's eyes flicked to mine, and for a brief second, I wondered if he was going to kiss me. My breath caught in my throat, my pulse racing in anticipation. But then he pulled back slightly, his voice low and steady.

"Let's take our time, yeah?"

I blinked, caught off guard by his restraint. But then I realized how much I appreciated it—how much I appreciated him. He wasn't rushing me, wasn't pushing for more than I was ready for. It was like he knew exactly what I needed, even when I didn't know it myself.

I nodded, a soft smile tugging at my lips. "Yeah. Let's take our time."

Changbin smiled back, and in that moment, I knew that whatever this was—whatever we were building—it was real. And for the first time in a long time, I wasn't afraid of that.
