Night after night; Julia was divided. It had been a few months since she encountered the great La Femme Rouge but she continued to haunt—not haunt—fill her mind with her flirty smirk and charming tone.
She reached for the light switch on the lamp on her nightstand and flicked it on. She sat up. Her job required her to peruse Carmen—but not in the way Julia wanted. ACME wanted to take Carmen down for good while Julia to be closed with the Red Rouge. ACME still believed Carmen was ruling a criminal empire, Julia knew otherwise.
Especially since Carmen brought her a gorgeous bouquet of roses in the hands of a terracotta warrior. Oh she couldn't stop thinking about that. She often caught herself daydreaming of Carmen while working. Every interaction Julia and Carmen had was positive and spectacular, even the imaginary ones.
Julia held her head in her hands, she felt like crying? But also laughing? Embarrassed? So many conflicting feelings. She reached for her phone, a dark blue colored phone case, contrasting Carmen's red one.
"Maybe I could call her?" Julia mumbled to herself as she came across Carmen's contact. She had multiple of Carmen's associates saved on her phone, just in case.
"No, no. She's probably asleep? Or on a caper?" Why would she wanna talk to her, of all people, anyways.
"I'll just leave her a text," Julia shrugged. Carmen had wrote her actual number on a notecard that was attached to the bouquet. Oh how Jules cared for each and every rose until they eventually wilted. Nonetheless, the roses were stunning.
Julia typed out:
Hey, Carmen. It's Jules. I know It's been a hot minute since we spoke but I was wondering if you'd like to catch up sometime. I know this really adorable cafe near my apartment, although if you're busy stomping out VILE, I understand.
It was a long text, Julia felt, but, it would get her point across. She hoped. She was rather hesitant to send it at first but with a deep breath she pressed send and immediately placed her phone face down back on the nightstand. She turned off her lamp and pressed her face inti the pillow, hoping to fall asleep before receiving a text back.
Julia was still unable to fall asleep. Maybe turning on a light staring at her phone at 2 in the morning wasn't a good idea. She sighed and rolled over to stare at the celling for however long it'd take to get her to sleep.
After a while, something flashed from the corner of Julia's eye. Her phone. She didn't want to see who or what it was from but she knew it'd make her heart sink if she didn't check. The notification was from a text, from Carmen! She blinked, she honestly didn't think Carmen would text back. Julia read the text aloud:
Hey Jules! It's been a bit but I'd luv to catch up! I would've texted you sooner but something came up.
Julia let out a sigh of relief. She mentally celebrated her accomplishment. Within thirty minutes, Carmen and Julia were texting plans for meeting up, when and what time. And Julia couldn't be more thrilled to dine with the extraordinary and fashionable thief.
