Inseong woke up on a Sunday morning. He took a deep breath, excited at the thought of the new neighbor moving into his neighborhood today. His small, quiet neighborhood in South Korea was familiar and peaceful, and any change made him feel anxious.
"It can't be that my neighborhood is starting to fill up with new people," he muttered to himself as he looked out the window. "What if he's a troublesome type?"
Just as he hoped he wouldn't have to encounter the new neighbor, he saw the moving truck arriving. Inseong felt his heart fill with tension. He was used to the quiet of the neighborhood, so any change was difficult for him.
Jaeyoon, the new neighbor, settled into his new apartment. When he got out of the car, he caught Inseong's gaze and felt his body shrink. Jaeyoon was a tall man with dark hair and fair skin. He had always been shy, and moving to a new neighborhood only added to his anxiety.
At that moment, Inseong saw Jaeyoon again and couldn't ignore the strange feeling. "What's happening to me?" he thought, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
As Sunday passed, Inseong couldn't stop thinking about Jaeyoon. The gym was the only place where he could relieve the stress, so he decided to go there. Upon arriving at the gym, he saw Jaeyoon again, this time right next to the weight machines.
"No way this is happening," Inseong whispered to himself. He couldn't shake the feeling that they would run into each other again.
Jaeyoon felt the tension. "Looks like that's my neighbor," he thought, shrinking back. He formulated the words in his head, but all that came out was, "Do you also work out here?"
Inseong felt a small smile spread across his face, although he tried to hide it. "Yeah, I'm here almost every day," he replied shortly, feeling Jaeyoon's embarrassment.
"Me too," Jaeyoon answered, in a soft and insecure voice, and the feeling of tension lingered in the air.
For a few days, their encounters continued. Sometimes they seemed almost inevitable, as if fate was pushing them to be in that gym at the same hours. Jaeyoon was too shy to start a conversation, and Inseong couldn't figure out what was going on with him.
Meanwhile, in his conversations with friends, Inseong shared his feelings. "He's an annoying type," he said, preparing for a battle over his opinion. "I don't know why, but he just doesn't sit right with me." His friends, however, laughed.
"Maybe he just looks unpleasant," they said. "Give him a chance."
One day, while Inseong was warming up on the treadmill, he saw Jaeyoon entering the gym. Jaeyoon smiled politely at him, and Inseong quickly turned away. It was a tense moment.
"Are you okay?" Jaeyoon asked as he approached with a shy gaze.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Inseong replied, trying to avoid Jaeyoon's eyes. "I... I'm busy."
"Okay," Jaeyoon answered, disappointment evident on his face.
When Inseong returned home, he felt the burden lift, but the thoughts of Jaeyoon still lingered.
"I don't know what's happening to me," he admitted to himself. "He's just a new neighbor."
Meanwhile, Jaeyoon was also facing his own thoughts. What if Inseong was someone he couldn't connect with? They had started off as enemies. Would they be able to overcome that?
