High school became kind of hard, on me. I became so self-conscious about hanging around Drew, I felt bad, not because I might be making him feel bad, but he made me feel bad. He got all the special treatment, he was popular, got excused from every class no matter the situation, and all the girls were all over him. Everyone would crowd around him, questioning him what he's doing, who he's dating, what's he likes, what he thinks is cool. We were only freshmen when this all happened. I'd get lost in the crowd and pushed to the side lines, literally. It seemed like having a disease makes you cool, unless it's HIV. I'd seem to disappear when it comes to school.
A buzz from my phone and a knock at the window during class. Drew would be calling and I'd be ignoring. He'd open the door a little and whisper my name.
"Moon." He whispered loudly. "Moon."
"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Read my text."
I read it. "No."
"Come on Moon." He called me over.
"No." I stayed in my desk. "I'm doing my work, now leave me alone."
"Luna Jade Magsino come over here now."
"You did not just use my middle name Andrew Ja-"
"Luna. Is there something you wanted to say?" My teacher called upon me. She looked at the door. "Mr. Andrew. Would you like to come inside? Is there something you need?"
He stepped inside. "No ma'am, I'm just here for Luna."
"Ooh." The class was immature.
"Slut." A girl coughed.
"Shut up bitch." I scowled.
"Luna!" My teacher was appalled.
"To be fair ma'am, she did call Luna a slut."
"True." She agreed with him. "Don't let it happen again. Both of you."
"Can I speak with Luna outside please?" He asked kindly.
"Of course Andrew." She smiled at him. "You may be excused Luna."
"Thank you ma'am." He opened the door for me.
"What a gentleman." A girl gazed at him.
"What do you want Drew?" I closed the door.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"What do you mean 'what's wrong'?" I sat on the floor.
"You've been so distant." He sat beside me.
"It's not my fault. May be your entourage could tell you."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
I sighed. "I mean, it's like since we came to high school and people found out about your disease, you're famous and I'm just your neighbor that gets pushed out my the crowds. Literally." I threw my head back. "It's like I disappear when we're in school."
"You haven't disappeared. You're right here." He held my hand. "I'm right here."
"I meant metaphorically." I place my other hand upon ours. "I've tried so hard to make you feel as normal as I could."
"I know thank you for that." He place his on top of mine.
I sighed. "But it seems like you want the special treatment."
"I don't mind it." I punched his arm. "What am I supposed to do? I'm not going to change who I am because of it."
"I hope you don't."
