I was down at the stables, brushing out Destiny's coat. She was a beautiful horse. I refused to let her be raced, she was far too valuable to me. My brothers brought me her as a gift when I was just 7, 10 years ago now. 'Shit' I cursed as I checked the time. The family meeting was soon, I couldn't be late.
I walked into the betting den, greeted by Aunt Poll. 'You been down at the stables love?' She questioned and I nodded in response. We had a quick catch up before Tommy arrived, right on time of course. He placed a quick kiss on my temple, before asking how I was.
The meeting was all about bets and business plans. I picked at my nails, a bad habit. I wasn't like the others in my family. I was an anxious girl- I liked to know what was going on at all times, of course right now I didn't. Tommy wrapped up the meeting; I let out a sigh of relief before standing up after all of my other siblings.
I patted down my dress, to ensure no creases. I felt arms wrap around my waist and pull me in. 'I hate to see you like that, all stressed and overwhelmed.' Poll whispered into my hair. I hummed lightly in response- I could feel Tommys eyes burning into me from the table he was sat. Aunt Poll pulled away, grabbing my hands and inspecting them. There were scabs and fleshy skin around all around my nails from where I had picked. 'Let's have some tea eh?'
I smiled at my aunts invite, giving a small 'yeah'. I watched as she walked off to the kitchen.'Lilah' Tommy called out
I turned around, he was closer now. Crouching down slightly he cupped my face in his hands. 'If you need to talk to anyone about anything, I'm here.' His face softened as I met his gaze.
'Thank you Tom.' My voice cracked slightly, as Tommy pulled me into his chest.Little sister privileges I say.
