Indigo pulled her knees up to her chest, staring at the grey sky outside of her window. The house was silent. It hadn't been this silent since her mother died, since it was just her and her father, who hadn't said a word until the next day after her death.

She was trying to focus on the good part. She had a little sister now. That's awesome. She'd always wanted a little sister. But no matter how hard she tried to focus on that, her mind kept going back to the fact that the woman she was beginning to accept as her second mother left them. Willingly.

A cry weaved itself through the house, pulling Indigo from her thoughts. It was a baby's cry. It was Aspen.

She got to her feet, making her way through the rooms until she came across the cradle that her new baby sister was laying in. She carefully picked her up, trying to hold her in the way she would see plenty of other people do. She stopped crying after a few moments.

Indigo sat down on the couch, Aspen still in her arms. She gazed down at her, swallowing. Aspen would have to grow up without a mother, Indigo knew that. She wasn't sure how she would have started off without a mother--- hers used to be with her all the time before she got sick.

So, she made a decision. She brushed a few beginnings of hairs off of the little one's forehead. "I'll protect you," she mumbled quietly. "I'll help you with everything. I'll be your mom, Azzy," she whispered, smiling quietly as the baby cooed.

Indigo laughed, looking at the baby velociraptors. "Dad!" she called, hopping up and down. Aspen was latched onto her back. "Dad! I want to come in!"

Owen chuckled, raising his brows. Indigo continued to jump, causing an eruption of giggles from the toddler still latched onto her back. He rolled his eyes, for gesturing for her to come in.

Indigo walked into the enclosure, looking down at the little creatures. "They're so cute," she laughed, letting Aspen come off of her back. She waved at the cameraman, who waved back. She to the raptors once more. "What did you name them?"

"Delta, Echo, Charlie, and Blue," he told her, pointing to each of them. Blue stared at Azzy, her head cocked to the side.

"See, Blue is the most odd one of the group. She shows signs of obedience, of curiosity, and many other things. The others show none of this," Owen explained to her. "That's why--- Azzy!"

Aspen had reached her tiny hand to the raptor, but before Owen could stop her, she had already put her hand on its muzzle. There was no reaction.

Raising these raptors was going to be an interesting experience for her father, Indigo decided as Aspen let out a giggle.
