The levitating scanner was almost thrown on the other side of the room. Izana's blood began to pump faster. It wasn't there. Not a single mention that she couldn't study. The muscles around her mouth tightened, and her upper teeth slightly overlapped her lower lip. She felt fabulous. She wanted to march up to her father and tell him: " I can."
She stood up, pressing her light purple hands against her hips. Her spine let out a satisfyingly relieving crack. Her nose, as long as her ears, pointed proudly upwards. She was a Nasussian. A member of the smartest race in the entire Starspeac. Unfortunately, she was also a female born into a high-ranking family, and from women like her, no intellectual actions were expected according to her father's words. "Too bad, Dad," she thought. "It's only not expected, but it's not forbidden."
She took a deep breath. A whirlwind of words danced before her eyes:
Disrespectful.Unseemly.
Inappropriate.
Improper.
Screw all that's improper, she thought. Izana quickly tapped the flybook. The screen detached from the keyboard without her help and floated in the air perfectly in line with her eyes. The smart device flawlessly tracked the direction of her gaze, adjusting the monitor to ensure the best view. But Izana decided to change her position. She wasn't about to stand and type on the keyboard. She sat down. The monitor followed her trajectory, as the keyboard did, which rose from the desk and floated toward the bed where young lady Waltory had settled. Once she stopped fidgeting, the keyboard landed neatly on her lap.
Izana ran her long, bony fingers over the keys. Her purple skin around the nails was darker due to years of nervous biting. Under the glow of the crystals levitating near the ceiling, she typed the name of the most prestigious university on the entire planet Nasuss. This university was hopefully in the same town where Izana lived. Her application was already pre-filled. All she had to do was pay and submit. Her father's payment chip will be quite busy tonight. Getting into PUN would be like giving her family a huge bomb, but the chance was small. She had to secure her success another way. A bomb wasn't necessary, just a small bullet to wipe the word fiancé from their vocabulary would be enough. After all, the clever law clearly said that students couldn't be married. Luckily for Izana, her planet prioritized intelligence and personal development over arranged marriages, which the upper class, with their surnames, still stubbornly insisted on. Fortunately, the government was gradually being taken over by Nasussians without surnames.
Izana, who was sick of all the senseless rules, felt like the rulers were finally in her favor. She was happy; she didn't want to leave all the luxury only because she was unhappy with Nasuss culture.
