"The Comedy School is preparing for its annual Halloween festival, where students and staff dress up, share spooky stories, and engage in playful pranks. However, this year, strange and eerie things start happening that go beyond harmless fun. Rumors spread of a ghost haunting the campus, a specter that supposedly appears only during Halloween night."

Sunday

7:00 AM

The crisp night air hummed with excitement as students ran around in costumes, laughter echoing through the snow-dusted grounds of the Comedy School.

The annual Halloween festival was in full swing—everywhere you looked, there were witches, vampires, zombies, and more creative interpretations of famous comedians.

Paper pumpkins hung from trees, casting an orange glow over the courtyard, while spooky music blared from hidden speakers.

???: "Blerrrrghh! I'm a vampire!" One student said in a dramatic, aristocratic tone.

"And.. I'm going to suck you!"

???: "What?" A girl cosplayed as a zombie turned around, confused.

???: "..Blood. Not you in general." The accent had disappeared.

???: "Look! I'm Patton Oswalt!" He said, approaching them.

"I can come up with a joke, ehem.."

"Sigma male ohio skibid-"

???: "Can you AT LEAST COME UP WITH AN ACTUAL JOKE INSTEAD OF SKIPPING CLASS?!"

Player looked around, adjusting her costume—a last-minute mashup of classic witch and stand-up comedian.

It wasn't winning any prizes, but it was comfortable. Besides, there was no way she'd win against Rainey's annual costume stunt.

Rainey, the school's head teacher, always took Halloween seriously. Rumor had it that his costume this year was top-secret.

And the prize for best costume? A mysterious "golden mic" that gave its bearer unlimited access to the school's best comedic resources—books, recordings, and even a secret underground stand-up club.

Player wasn't sure how much of that was true, but the competition was fierce.

(This place is amazing.) Player muttered as she looked at the decorations lining the school courtyard.

Fake cobwebs and jack-o'-lanterns lit the way to the various stalls and activities. Her friend Milly, dressed as a banana with sunglasses, caught up to her, handing over a cup of warm cider.

Milly: "Isn't it? It's like a comedy carnival of chaos out here!" She grinned.

"You think Rainey's gonna pull off another ridiculous costume this year?"

(I hope so..) Player said with a laugh, sipping the cider.

(Apparently, last year he was dressed as a giant chicken doing stand-up about farming.)

Milly: "Legendary." She replied.

"But this year I heard something weird. There's a rumor going around about a ghost haunting the school."

(Classic, that's not gonna fool me any time Mills!) Player rolled her eyes.

Milly: "But it's true!" Milly's voice dropped to a whisper.

"People have heard things. Seen things. And the ghost supposedly only shows up on Halloween."

(You're being so-)

Before Player could respond, the lights flickered above them, plunging the courtyard into darkness for a split second.

A few students gasped, but the lights buzzed back to life almost immediately. Nervous laughter rippled through the crowd.

(Huh..) Player muttered, glancing up at the lights.

(Power surge?)

Milly: "Or maybe.." Milly slowly crept up behind Player..

"It was the GHOST!"

She pats both Player's shoulders suddenly.

(A-AH! S-STOP!) Player shivered, Milly chuckled playfully.

Milly: "Hehe.. you're way too easy to scare.."

"Come on now, let's go check out the costume contest! I bet Rainey's going to show up soon."

Milly grabs Player's hand and pulls her away.

But as they walked toward the stage set up for the contest, Player couldn't shake the strange feeling that settled in the pit of her stomach.

The lights hadn't just flickered—they had blinked out, as though something had passed through them. Something not quite right.

. . .

A Ghostly Encounter

9:00 PM

By the time they reached the contest area, the air was thick with tension and anticipation.

Dozens of students were gathered around, some still putting the finishing touches on their costumes.

Player and Milly found a spot near the stage, where a few of their friends were gathered.

The stage was set with spooky decorations, including a fog machine that was billowing thick clouds of mist into the cool night air.

Suddenly, the lights flickered again—this time longer. The crowd grew quieter, and a hush settled over the courtyard.

Milly: "What’s happening?" Milly whispered, stepping closer to Player.

"Do you hear that..?"

Player frowned, glancing around. The air seemed colder, and a strange chill brushed past her.

The fog from the machine swirled unnaturally, creating vague shapes in the mist. For a moment, it almost looked like a figure was forming out of the smoke.

(I don’t like this..) Player muttered.

(It’s starting to get a little too real.)

Just as the tension reached its peak, a loud, booming voice rang out from the stage.

???: "WELCOME, GHOULS AND GOBLINS, TO THE HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST!"

The crowd cheered, and the atmosphere shifted instantly as Rainey strode onto the stage, his costume more ridiculous than anyone had expected.

He was dressed as a stand-up comedian, but not just any comedian—she was dressed as a literal stand-up mic, complete with a headpiece that resembled a microphone and a suit covered in soundwaves.

The crowd burst into laughter, all tension forgotten.

Milly: "Of course!" Milly exclaimed. "He’s a walking mic!"
