The Council of Elders had finally agreed to prepare for the coming conflict, but Lucian knew it was only the beginning. Time was running out, and every day brought Kieran closer to opening the remaining Night Gates. As he left the Elders' chamber, Lucian's thoughts swirled with the weight of the prophecy, the looming darkness, and his role as the Daywalker.
Beside him, Lyra and Elowen walked in tense silence. Elowen had been pouring over the ancient texts for weeks, trying to uncover more about the Daystone and the Night Gates, but even with all her research, they were still missing vital pieces of the puzzle. The Order of Eternal Night was growing stronger, and Kieran was the key to it all.
"We got what we needed from the Elders, but I don't trust them to act fast enough," Lyra muttered, her voice breaking the silence as they walked down the empty corridor. "By the time they do something, Kieran could have already opened another gate."
Lucian nodded. "We can't rely on them completely. If we're going to stop Kieran, we need to be one step ahead. We need to find the next Night Gate before he does."
Elowen's brow furrowed, her eyes distant as she mulled over the weight of that task. "I've been searching through every record I can find, but the Night Gates are so old, so well-hidden. Even with the clues we've found, it's like trying to trace shadows."
Lucian's hand instinctively went to the pendant around his neck, the silver crescent moon that had belonged to his father. The family heirloom had always been a source of comfort, but lately, he couldn't shake the feeling that it held secrets of its own. His father had disappeared without a trace, leaving behind only this pendant and more questions than answers.
"We have to go deeper," Lucian said softly, his voice laced with a hint of determination. "I need to understand more about my family—about the Daystone. There's something we're missing, something my father might have known."
Elowen looked at him, her blue eyes filled with understanding. "Then we need to go to the Moonshade archives. It's the only place that could have information on the Daystone's true origins."
Lyra raised an eyebrow. "The Moonshade archives? I thought they were sealed. No one's been allowed in there since..."
"Since my father disappeared," Lucian finished grimly. "But we don't have a choice. If we're going to stop Kieran, we need to know everything."
The Moonshade estate stood on the edge of Eldergrove, a sprawling, ancient fortress shrouded in mystery. For centuries, it had been the seat of the powerful Moonshade family, a clan of vampires tasked with maintaining the balance between light and dark. But in recent years, the estate had fallen into shadow, its halls quiet and its secrets locked away.
Lucian, Lyra, and Elowen arrived at the estate under the cover of night, their steps quiet as they made their way through the grand iron gates and up the winding stone path that led to the main entrance. The estate loomed before them, its towering walls cast in the pale light of the crescent moon. The windows were dark, and the air was thick with the weight of centuries-old magic.
"This place gives me the creeps," Lyra muttered, her eyes scanning the estate warily. "No offense, Lucian, but your family's home looks like something out of a horror story."
Lucian offered a faint smile, though his heart was heavy with memories of the past. "None taken. It hasn't been the same since my father vanished."
Elowen, ever the pragmatist, stepped forward. "Let's focus on finding the archives. Once we're inside, we can figure out what your father knew about the Daystone."
Lucian led them through the main doors, the grand entryway echoing with their footsteps as they stepped inside. The interior of the estate was just as imposing as its exterior, with high vaulted ceilings, dark wood paneling, and portraits of long-dead ancestors watching over them from the walls. Dust hung in the air, undisturbed for years, as if the house itself had been waiting in silence.
