We were both led to separate rooms to prepare for the wedding, much to Thespian's anger, but this worked out for me. Carlisle got to work putting me in the most elegant gown. The dress was a masterpiece, intricate lace and delicate embroidery, fitting me perfectly.
Carlisle worked diligently, his hands expertly crafting the gown around me. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I could hardly believe the transformation.
The gown hugged my figure perfectly, the bodice covered in intricate lace that shimmered in the light. The long, delicate sleeves ended in subtle points at my wrists, adding a touch of elegance. The skirt flowed gracefully to the floor, made of layers of soft chiffon and tulle, creating a cloud-like effect with every movement. A hint of a train followed behind, giving the gown a dramatic yet ethereal presence.
Carlisle stepped back, admiring his work. "You look stunning," he said, a hint of pride in his voice.
I glanced at myself, barely recognizing the person staring back. The gown was a masterpiece, a blend of elegance and sophistication, and it gave me a sense of confidence and grace I hadn't felt in a long time.
"Thank you, Carlisle," I whispered, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.
I looked to the maid who had been watching over us. "I need to talk to Draus at once. Do not tell Thespian." She bowed and rushed out of the room. Carlisle's face was etched with concern.
"Why would you need to talk to that monster?" he asked, his voice filled with dread.
I met Carlisle's gaze, my own eyes reflecting the urgency I felt. "Because... Thespian is in danger."
Carlisle hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Very well. But be careful. Draus is unpredictable and dangerous."
"I know that better than anyone," I replied, walking to the window and looking out into the courtyard, seeing thousands piling into the palace. The door swung open and Draus walked in. "You called?"
I moved to the sitting area and sat down. "It is a matter of great importance," I said, glancing at Carlisle and the maid. "Leave us."
Draus sat across from me, a hint of confusion on his face. "Not getting cold feet about marrying my son, are you?"
"Thespian plans on killing himself at the wedding," i just came out and said it, "once we are wed, he plans to slit his own throat and end the both of you."
"Your loyalty is, as ever, strong," Draus smiled, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
"This is not about loyalty," I told him, my voice steady. "You know I am anything but loyal, that I have been putting up an act. You're not stupid; I know that you know this."
"Indeed," he leaned back, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. "But, you have been playing my games rather nicely. You know by telling me this, you are betraying the man you love, and the entire kingdom?"
"I am aware," I nodded, holding his gaze firmly. "But that's the thing, I will take your side if he lives. I will allow the kingdoms to burn to the ground if it means he is safe."
Draus's smile widened, his expression one of twisted satisfaction. "Interesting... I always knew you had a certain tenacity. This changes things," he mused, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the armrest. "Very well. Your devotion has been noted. Let's see how this plays out."
"I will continue to play your games, continue to show you support," I said, falling to my knees before him, my voice pleading. "just please, dont let him do what he plans to do." i bowed to him, "please my king."
"For you, my dear soon-to-be daughter-in-law," he smiled, "this will be my wedding gift to you. I will do everything in my power to stop his plans."
"Thank you," I whispered, tears of relief streaming down my face.
Draus leaned in close, lifting my chin to meet his gaze. "You better be ready to do whatever it takes."
I nodded, "I will."
He stood to his feet, looking down at me, "You really are a beautiful bride. Now stand before you ruin the gown the pest worked so hard to make."
I did as he said, brushing myself off as I rose. His smile lingered for a moment longer, an unsettling blend of approval and menace, before he turned and left the room.
Left alone, the weight of the situation settled heavily on me. I had secured a promise from Draus, but at what cost? The path ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but my resolve to protect Thespian and fight for our future remained unshaken.
As I steadied myself, the gown flowed gracefully around me, a reminder of the roles we played in this twisted game. I would need every ounce of strength and cunning to navigate the challenges ahead.
A maid entered the room, her silent look indicating it was time. With a deep breath, I followed her from the room and down the winding corridors toward the throne room. Fear gripped me, each step echoing the weight of what was to come.
As we approached the grand doors, they swung open to reveal the throne room bathed in a golden light. Guests were gathered, their eyes turning towards me, whispering among themselves. My heart pounded, the gravity of the situation pressing down on me.
