Alexandria took her seat at the head of the table, with James to her left and Astraea to her right. Next to James sat Violet and Althaeon, then Thespian and me, then Thorne, Catharine, and Leo. Next to Astraea was Oberon, then Alex, then Rose and Emily, then Odessa and Storm, followed by Carlisle and Lunar, their daughter Isabella, then Alexander and Alana, and their daughter Serenity.
Rather than having maids bring the food, it was all already laid out on the table, not a servant in sight... except Lunar, Carlisle, Thorne, and their families. The atmosphere was relaxed and familial, a stark contrast to the usual formalities of royal dinners.
I looked at Thorne, curiosity piqued. "I thought you, Carlisle, and Lunar just served the royal family?"
"We are considered members as we are godfathers to Alexandria's and Astraea's children," he explained with a warm smile. "We are also close enough to them that they have always called us family. My own children view Astraea, Alex, and Althaeon as cousins and grew up as such."
His explanation filled me with a sense of belonging and understanding. The lines between service and family were blurred here, creating a unique bond that was both strong and loving. It was a reminder that family isn't just defined by blood, but by the connections we build and the love we share.
The table was an impressive sight, laden with a sumptuous feast. Platters of roasted meats, including golden-brown turkey, honey-glazed ham, and perfectly cooked beef, were the centerpiece of the spread. Around them, bowls of vibrant, fresh vegetables in a variety of colors added a touch of elegance: sautéed greens, roasted root vegetables, and delicate steamed asparagus spears.
Side dishes included creamy mashed potatoes, rich and buttery, paired with a savory gravy that hinted at herbs. There were also fluffy dinner rolls, still warm from the oven, accompanied by pats of melting butter. A large dish of baked macaroni and cheese sat nearby, its golden, crispy top giving way to a gooey, cheesy interior.
Salads of every kind were also present, from a crisp garden salad with a tangy vinaigrette to a more decadent Caesar salad with crunchy croutons and shavings of parmesan cheese.
The desserts were a sight to behold, almost too beautiful to eat. Delicate pastries, tarts filled with fresh fruits, and a multi-layered cake drizzled with a decadent chocolate ganache. Bowls of fresh berries and whipped cream offered a lighter option for those inclined.
Wine glasses were placed next to each plate, ready to be filled with rich red or crisp white wines. Crystal pitchers of water and juices were also available for those who preferred non-alcoholic options.
The entire setup was a testament to the generosity and warmth of the gathering, inviting everyone to partake and enjoy the evening together.
All of this was unlike anything I had ever experienced before, even when I was captured by Draus. The fairies chose the meatless options, except for Oberon, who reached for a turkey leg. Astraea quickly hit his hand away, "No way in hell you're getting sick from eating that tonight."
"Dearie," Carlisle interjected, "I believe she just put you in your place."
Oberon grumbled, "Stupid light fairy," just loud enough for me to hear. I chuckled, enjoying my enhanced demon hearing.
Alexandria stood up, commanding everyone's attention. "There is something I need to discuss with you all."
Every eye was on her, the room falling silent. "As you all know, I have ascended to the god of magic, the Great Dragon. However, because the gods took me so suddenly that I barely had time to write you all letters, they have given me a wish. This wish cannot bring people back from the dead or alter the kingdom in any major way."
