Lyric barely made it through the front door before the sobs took over again. Her chest felt tight, her head was pounding, and her hands wouldn't stop shaking. She didn't even think—just grabbed her the nearest glass cup off the counter and threw it as hard as she could.
CRASH!
Shards exploded across the floor, sparkling under the dim light. She didn't care. She sank to ground, knees hitting the cold tile, her hands gripping her head as the tears kept coming.
She barely heard the door open before Trevon's voice cut through the air.
"Man, what the fuck goin' on in here?" His tone sharp, rough— his usual street drawl laced with something concerned. His heavy footsteps moved closer, then stopped. "Lyric".
She sniffled, wiping her face with the back of her hand, but the tears wouldn't stop. "l-l went to see Alex," she chocked out.
Trevon stayed quiet, waiting.
"She—she was on top of Jay," Lyric finally got out, her voice cracking. 'I asked her if they was messing around and she lied to me." "I-I trusted her, Trevon..." Her breath hitched, and she squeezed her eyes shut. "Why she do me like that?"
Trevon exhaled hard through his nose. His jaw tensed, and his fists clenched his sides. He tilted his head down, shaking it slightly before mumbling under his breath, "I'm finna beat Jay ass up".
Lyric sniffled, looking up at him with watery eyes. "Why me, Trevon?" Her voice was small, broken.
Trevon kneeled in front of her, his big hands cupping her face gently. "I know baby. I know." His thumbs wiped at her tears, his touch rough but careful. "You gotta breathe for me, aight? Just breathe."
She tired. Inhaled. Exhaled. But her chest still felt like it was caving in.
Trevon let out another slow breath, his forehead pressing against hers for a second. "Man, fuck all that. Ain't nobody 'posed to be doin' you like this." His voice was low, dangerous. "Jay got me fucked up. Alex too"
Lyric closed her eyes, another tear slipping down her cheek. "I just feel so stupid."
Nah Trevon murmured, pulling her closer. "You ain't stupid. You just got a heart, and these lames ass people don't know how to handle it".
And for the first time that night, Lyric let herself relax—just a little—against him. Because even though everything felt like it was falling apart, Trevon was still here.
