Anika giggled in the corner her blonde hair bouncing up and down in laughter but as soon as she stopped laughing she realised mother and Akina were very serious and she suppressed her laughter as she walked out to the kitchen.
In this story we have Akina and Anika two 14 year old girls who live in 1845 Japan far into the countryside. They have a younger brother kingoku who is 8 and their parents who they refer to as mother and father so there is no need to know their real names. These girls come from a long line of soldiers and samurai making the village people often call them blessed when they belive that it's just ancestory. Ok that's enough yapping about their life let's get into it.
"Fine mother I'll go and Anika can stay here." But under her breath you could hear her mutter "she can use that time to start counting her days!"Anika poked her head round the kitchen door and felt a pang of guilt in her heart as her sister had just offered for her to stay home and just as Akina was leaving Anika called after her into the grass and sun racing down to the village in between the trees and then occasionally crossing over bridges to finally catch up with Akina her feet aching in her wooden sandals.
