#26: A Halloween Night to Remember
2nd POV...
Y/N stood by the large bay window, watching the autumn leaves fall outside in a lazy swirl of oranges, reds, and yellows. The sun was beginning to set, casting an amber glow over the quiet street. It was Halloween, and the air was alive with the festive energy that always came with the holiday—the smell of pumpkin spice, the sight of jack-o’-lanterns flickering on doorsteps, and the occasional child darting down the street in costume.
“Are you excited for tonight?” Blake’s voice pulled Y/N from her thoughts. She turned to see her fiancée standing in the kitchen, dressed in a black sweater and leggings, her blonde hair casually tied up in a messy bun. There was an easy grace to the way Blake moved around the space, setting out candy for the trick-or-treaters they expected later.
Y/N smiled. “Yeah, I am. It’s our first Halloween in the new house, after all.”
Blake grinned, leaning on the counter. “First Halloween as an engaged couple, too.” There was a teasing lilt to her voice as she waved the sparkling ring on her finger, catching the warm light from the kitchen.
Y/N crossed the room to her, placing her hands on Blake’s waist and pulling her closer. “I’m excited for that part too,” she whispered, leaning in for a kiss. Blake’s lips were soft, warm, and familiar, a comfort that grounded Y/N after long days and restless nights.
Blake chuckled softly against Y/N’s mouth. “Don’t get too distracted. The trick-or-treaters will be here any minute.”
Y/N groaned playfully, resting her forehead against Blake’s. “I forgot about the kids.”
Blake pulled back, laughing. “How could you forget? We bought, like, ten bags of candy.”
Y/N shrugged. “Guess I’m a little more focused on other things.”
Blake’s eyes sparkled mischievously. “Well, we’ll have plenty of time for that later. First, let’s make sure we don’t ruin our reputation as the coolest house on the block.”
The doorbell rang, and Y/N sighed. “Looks like it’s starting.”
Blake winked at her. “Let’s do this.”
---
The night unfolded like a warm blanket, wrapping the couple in its soft, comforting embrace. They stood side by side at the door, handing out candy to excited children in costumes ranging from superheroes to witches to tiny dinosaurs. Blake was in her element, chatting with the parents and complimenting the kids on their outfits, making each interaction feel special.
Y/N watched her with admiration. Blake had a way of connecting with people that was effortless. Her charm was magnetic, drawing others in with ease. It was one of the things Y/N had fallen in love with—the way Blake could make anyone feel like the most important person in the room.
Between the waves of trick-or-treaters, Blake turned to Y/N with a playful smile. “Remember when we used to go trick-or-treating as kids? I always had the lamest costumes.”
Y/N laughed. “Oh yeah? What was your go-to?”
Blake looked down sheepishly. “A princess. Every. Single. Year.”
