Notes:

it's been a long while since i've attempted to write anything substantial. i like to think i've grown since then. i've even plotted out the entirety of harry's hogwarts years before attempting to post this. a great step up from when i would just blind write and then get upset when i didn't know where to take my stories. anyways hopefully i'll actually end up getting to the part of the series where harry goes to camp jupiter. no promises for updating this time. this is my last summer break before college i don't want to spend it all behind a screen.

Harry was four years old when he saw a monster for the first time. He was so young it didn't occur to him just how crazy it was that he could talk to snakes.

Harry met her the first summer his aunt made him care for her garden. Her name was Meganira, but he called her Meg.

He remembers thinking her smooth scales were beautiful and asking about her life.

She was the first friend he ever made in the constant isolation of the Dursley Residence.

~

By the time Harry started primary school, Meg and he were very close; he saw her as a mother figure.

She taught him how to care for his aunt's garden between stories of the Greek and Roman gods, goddesses, and their demigod children.

However, as Harry started school, he encountered one major issue. Other people didn't seem to have the same beliefs Meg had about the gods.

They did not believe him when he told his teachers that the Greek and Roman gods were still alive. His aunt and uncle were not pleased.

~

Eventually, Meg's old owner, Trip, was looking for her; she told Harry she had to go. She needed to disappear.

Harry had to say goodbye to the only friend he had ever had after a mere three years together.

With no one there to believe him, he stops wondering if the monsters outside his house are genuinely there. He focuses on avoiding his relatives and getting through primary school.

~

By the time Harry turns nine, the constant presence of monsters has become second nature, and he doesn't even notice them anymore.

With the excitement of going to Hogwarts, he almost forgets about them and Meg completely.

Notes:
