wrenleys pov:

the next morning i wake up a little bit before sunrise, carefully trying not to wake anyone. i had to get back to figure eight early this morning. i promised my mom i would help her set up this party for her work friends or something.

not only that, i also really wanted to see sarah. i haven't seen her for a few days and i was supposed to sleepover last night.

i successfully made it out of the chateau without waking anyone and rode my bike all the way to tannyhill.

luckily for me i had keys to the back door, sarah gave them to me when she got her own set of keys. i quietly unlock the door and try my best to silence the sound of the door shutting as best i could.

it was still darkish, the sun barely rising.

i made my way up the starirs and as soon as i felt safe, the moment i turned the corner i was met with a very tall figure.

i look up, its rafe— sarah's brother.

rafe cameron. hes... interesting thats for sure. ive known him a long time, ive seen him change— a lot. he used to be sweet, to me at least.

now theres a lot of things that he does that i dont agree with but— i get why he does them.

i mean theres no excuse but, i feel like i understand why.

and plus, ive just known him for so long,
we used to count stars together,
have sleepovers in forts with sarah.

all of the sudden something just changed in him and i never could figure out what.

rafe startled me and i jumped back.

"s-sorry—"

"what are you doing sneaking around?" he questions me with crossed arms.

"that's actually none of your business" i whisper back to him, "now if you'll excuse me—" i say as i begin to walk passed him.

he stops me with his arm. i feel his cold and surprisingly strong arm hold me to a stop.

"where are you going?"

"uh— to sarah's room..?" i say like it's obvious. he gives me one long look, a look up and down. he meets my eyes again and i furrow my brows in confusion, he then lets go firmly.

i decided not to question it, worried about making matters worse.

i honestly try not to bother him now.

i quickly make my way over to sarah's room and quietly open her bedroom door. my nose is met with the familiar and safe scent of her.

i lightly smile and see she's still asleep in her bed.

i walk over and carefully get underneath the covers next to her. she shuffles.

"wrenley?" she says in a sleepy voice.

"i'm sorry i couldn't sleepover last night"

"it's okay— why are you here now?"

"i wanted to see you— before i get super busy" i tell her, she smiles.

"better not let rafe see you" she says

"too late." sarah gives me a confused look, "he already saw me," she just looks at me for a moment.

"how's he been anyway?" i ask her, curious.

"i don't know—" she says with a huff. "hes supposed to buy the backup generators with money our dad gave him which— i don't think he's gonna do, so that just means my dads gonna be in a bitchy mood" she complains to me.

i give her a sympathetic look, "hey, why don't you talk to him?"

"me?!" i say surprised and confused. why would she want me to talk to him?

"yes, you." she laughs. "what? why?" i ask still confused.

"well- he always used to listen to you when we were kids— i don't know" she says, "just give it a try."

"alright whatever makes you happy." i tell her with a breath. "i guess ill try"

she smiles at me, "thank you" she says as she hugs me.

"i should probably go," i sigh sadly. "alright i'll see you later" sarah's smile fades as i make my way out her bedroom door.
