"Keep your hands steady, pretend that target is alive. eyes forward Brianna!"
My new pistol wobbled in my hands as I tried to aim at the target.
Little images of the aliens flashed through my mind.
I quickly flicked safety off and fired three bullets before dropping the gun. As it hit the ground the gun went off a fourth time and nearly shot one of the younger boys.
I let out a squeel of surprise and the kid glared furiously at me. "Watch where you shoot, dumbass!" He shouted.
I looked at the ground and tried desperately to avoid the cold, empty eyes of my instructor.
"Get up." He growled at me.
Slowly I got up from my knees, keeping my face to the ground. I could now feel his breath against my face. "There is no place for little sissies like you in a war!" He placed a thick finger on my chin and forced me to look at him directly. "Understand that Brin."
"Yes sir..." I whispered under my breath. He said my name as if it was some sort of sick joke. God, can't anyone here learn some manners? I heard the kid and two other boys snigger at the scene. But that quickly stopped when the instructor turned around and pointed an accusing finger in Luke's direction. Quickly the other boys scuttled away. "As for you Luke. I will not tolerate swearing in my facility-" his voice was cut off by the sternness of Carolyns. "You're facility? I think you mean my facility."
Everyone spun around and placed their hands on their head in a salute. "At ease chirldren." I let my hand flop to my side as I reached down and began reloading the gun. "For the last time Nik, you need to stop acting like you own the place, you are not, and I repeat not, in any position to punish these, these, children so severely!" I looked up slightly to see Carolyn not pointing to a scrawny girl who had extremely sore looking slashes all over her body.
I turned and looked back at the grass. God help me now.

The clearing was bathed in an ethereal light. Large, bulky shapes crawled across the edge of the trees. Their movements were completely silent and their teeth glinting silver.
One of the larger creatures let out a soft hiss, like air escaping a tire. The creatures leapt out from the shadows, their forms becoming fully apparent.
At the front stood the largest of the group. It's head was beginning to curve out to the sides and its tail looked a lot larger compared to the others.
The group continued on its journey through the woods until they came upon a cave. It's walls were coated with a black slime that these creatures called home. The smaller creatures ran into the cave screeching loudly, but the largest one turned the other direction.
The soft light of a green tent.
The creature crawled towards the entrance. Saliva dripped from its mouth as it ripped a hole in the back of the tent. I reached its long arms inside and wrapped it around the small body of a girl.
It's mouth extended towards the girl slowly as it began to coat her in the black slime.
There was the sound of alerted voices as the men began to load their guns. The creature looked down at the girl.
Mother. It thought before slipping into the shadows, carrying the girl with it.
