(Y/n) was roused from sleep by the persistent beeping of her alarm clock on her phone.
Groaning softly, she reached over to silence it, her hand fumbling across the bedside table until she found the snooze button.
The soft embrace of her fluffy sheets tempted her to drift back into slumber, as she remembered there was no need to rush today.
A satisfied smile spread across her face as she recalled the welcome news: school was closed for the day due to an important teacher conference. Rumor had it that someone in the staff had clicked on a scam email, leading to a breach that compromised the school's funds.
The thought made her shake her head slightly; technology could be such a double-edged sword.
As she nestled back into her pillows, her phone pinged, the screen lighting up with a new message. She reached for it, curiosity piqued.
To her surprise, it was from her friends—Mikasa, Eren, and Armin—suggesting a group video call.
"This early in the morning?" she murmured, glancing at the time. It was earlier than she'd usually be up on a day off, but the idea of connecting with her friends brought warmth to her chest.
Throwing off the covers, she sat up and stretched, the cool morning air brushing against her skin. She pulled on a cozy hoodie over her sleep shirt and swapped her shorts for a comfortable pair of pajama pants. Catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she ran a quick hand through her hair, smoothing out the sleep-induced tangles.
Grabbing her laptop from her desk, she settled back onto her bed, propping up a few pillows behind her. She logged into Skype, her fingers tapping lightly against the keys. The familiar ringtone sounded, and soon the screen filled with the smiling faces of her friends.
"Morning, (Y/n)!" Armin greeted cheerfully, his blond hair slightly messy.
"Hey! Sleep well?" Mikasa asked, her dark eyes warm even through the screen.
Eren appeared, yawning widely. "Why are we up so early on a day off?" he grumbled good-naturedly.
She laughed softly. "I was just about to ask the same thing. What's the occasion?"
"Well," Armin began, his eyes lighting up with excitement, "Mikasa and I were thinking of planning something fun since we all have the day free."
Mikasa nodded. "Maybe a picnic...or a hike? The weather's supposed to be nice later."
Eren leaned closer to his camera. "Or we could check out that new arcade that just opened downtown."
(Y/n) smiled, feeling a flutter of happiness at the prospect of spending the day with them. "All of those sound great. I'm up for anything."
"Awesome!" Eren exclaimed. "Let's be ready around noon? I'll pick everyone up."
"Works for me," she agreed.
"Same here," Mikasa added.
Armin grinned. "Perfect!"
They chatted a bit longer, discussing details and sharing light-hearted jokes. As the call wrapped up, (Y/n) felt a renewed energy for the day ahead.
"See you guys soon," she said, waving at the screen.
"Later!" they chimed in unison before the call disconnected.
Closing her laptop, she set it aside and stood up, already mentally planning what to wear. A day out with friends was just what she needed. As she began gathering her things, her phone buzzed again.
