Trigger warnings: mentions of suicide

                                                                                     Prologue:

It had been years at this point since the very first time Buggy had laid eyes upon that damned crew, the strawhats; even though as small as they were, they still beat him and his crew so effortlessly, it seemed, led by nothing more than a weak little demon a smile plastered on that face that would follow him in his mind everywhere he went—flashing up at any time of day, infecting his thoughts and dreams along with that loud but gentle and sickly sweet voice and that horrid mixture of a scent ever mocking him since then. Fed up with these hauntings of that damn rubber demon in his head, bleeding slowly through the rest of his body overtaking him as time kept on, he made a goal to find and capture that demon to end it, having come close to getting him a few times but ultimately failing to secure him the thoughts in his head slowly turning wicked and sick into an obsession that little imp poisoning his thoughts and dreams turning his mind against himself eventually leading to a horrible breaking point but by luck or bad timing on his end he was found upon being saved he swore to himself he would succeed one way or another in capturing that demon. That straw hat. His Luffy.

                                                                                   CHAPTER 1.

The dim sunlight that shone through the cloud-filled sky hit his eyes as he lay against the mast up in the crow's nest, inhaling deeply and letting out a sigh, enjoying this plain but calming day. It wasn't often that he got to enjoy these moments of peace. Usually, there were always some other ships or marines they had to deal with, but on this particular day, it was as if everyone was off the seas. He looked up more at the sky, moving a clump of his hair out of one of his eyes as he watched the clouds aimlessly float about, a few birds flying past every so often, getting lost in his thoughts again it was happening more and more lately it seemed before a shiver runs throughout his spine and a horrid piercing giggle came closer floating up towards him.

"Hey, buggy!"

Perona an annoyance of a demon and a waste of breath to Buggy, but any other demon than Luffy was a waste of existence in Buggy's eyes. The only thing he thought was decent about her was her style, a pastel goth with horns like a ram but turned into a similar style as tight buns on her head fitting her style as they were often painted pink by her.

"What is it, Perona?" He snipped at her, the disdain in his voice so noticeable that he was somewhat impressed she didn't pick up on it before sitting up straight, leaning his back against the mast to look at her face to face.

"Jeez, so rude already, and I came up to see what you were doing." She huffed and pouted, making Buggy slightly grit his teeth in annoyance. He always hated how often she pouted and whined about everything.

"I was watching the clouds, but now, sadly, I'm talking to an annoying demon brat,"

"Well, excuse me for not exactly trusting you when no one can find you. Last time you were alone, I found you hanging pathetically from the ceiling, ya know!"

"Yes, yes... I'm aware of how you found me then... but I don't need to be watched constantly, ya know?" He said, a melancholy change in his voice and attitude filling their conversation, making Perona look at him with guilt. She didn't mean to hurt Buggy by bringing his past into the conversation like that, but it was too late to take it back now.

"Alright... Are there any good cloud shapes today?" She asked, trying her best to change the subject of conversation

"I haven't paid attention to that, but I'd bet there was some," he said, taking the bait and looking back up at the sky, now trying to focus more on their shapes as they passed.

"Well, if you find any cool ones, I wanna see them." She said, smiling, glad they were onto something else, and looked up to the sky as well, watching the clouds with him

"Alright, if you insist so-"

A small marking on Perona's wrist glowed softly, interrupting them as they spoke. It flashed a few times before Perona finally noticed it.

"Ah! sorry, Buggy gotta go. My dad's summoning me for something," she said, starting to float down.

"Summoning? Hey, wait, Perona," he called after her, getting up and leaning over the railing, looking down at her.

"Yea?" She asked quickly, floating back up, still not too trusting of Buggy near higher railings

"How does that summoning stuff work exactly? I never really figured it out. "

"Oh, I'm surprised you never did, considering you used to be a demon yourself for a good while. Well, you know how those who eat a devil fruit turn to demons themselves and how we get our own way for others to summon us? Well, if we give that person a sigil with the marking on our hands, they have a super easy and fast way of calling us cool, huh?" She said, talking rather quickly for Buggy's taste, but he caught all of it, being proud of himself for not missing any of it

"Oh yeah, ya know, I never got a marking on my hand when I had eaten my fruit or anywhere on my body, at least not that I remember of."

"Wait, really? Well, that's lame! But I'll talk to you later. I have to go now. Bye, Buggy!" She said, smiling and waving bye to Buggy before quickly flying back to the ship deck, drawing her symbol on the floor and hopping through it. The drawing was gone as soon as she went through it, and there was no trace of it anywhere on the ground. He was glad she was gone and laid back down, laying his head back against the mast again. The conversation with Perona was going on longer than he wanted it to. He hated that he was no longer even trusted to be alone anymore, all-cause he fucked up once. He sighed and continued to list off the shapes of the clouds in his head before freezing, seeing one that looked precisely like Luffy, that damn straw hat boy. He despised that runt so much he couldn't even bring himself to speak their name anymore. He had already banned his crew mates from saying it as well. Every time he tried to, it would bring back memories and feelings that made his skin crawl and stomach twist and writhe inside him. The thoughts that came with that name made him sick and filled his heart with an ever-growing hatred and infatuation for the little imp demon. But he knew he couldn't let this go on forever. He had to put this fight to rest. He was confident he'd rid himself of these awful thoughts and dreams once he caught and dealt with that strawhat once and for all. He just needed a way to capture him or at least an easy way to find him.

"Easy way to find him.... easy... EASY!!" he practically yelled as he tossed himself onto his feet. "Yes, yes, thank you, Perona!" He said, letting out a manic laugh for once, grateful she never shuts up. "Of course, how could I not think of before his sigil is my key to finally winning." he huffed, excited and ready to get started on a plan to somehow get Luffy's sigil from him or take it from his crew. He quickly climbed down the mast before running to his room, swinging his door open and freezing in place in pure fear. He looked up at the back of Crocodile's head, not registering that the Mihawk was right next to him.

"C-crocodile! W-what a pleasant surprise I- ya know I- I wasn't expecting yo-" he stammered out, not wanting to anger him before looking over and meeting Mihawk's eyes for a second before looking away instantly, even more nervous now.

"Shut up," he said, sounding more like a growl than words. "I see your little hobby has gotten worse. Shame. But I've come here to make a deal with you." He finally turned around to face Buggy, holding a large stack of papers and pictures about Luffy that were lying on Buggy's nightstand.

"a deal? Isn't me being in debt to you two enough?" he said, looking down at the papers, hoping and begging to himself that Crocodile doesn't ruin any of them.

"no, now since you've been following this little brat around for quite some time, I'm guessing you know a thing or two about him and his tricks," he said, placing the papers back down and glaring at Buggy.

"w-well, yes, I do, but I don't see how it could help you two in any way," he said, sighing internally in relief that Crocodile didn't ruin his stuff.

"Oh, I assure you, jester, that your information will be quite useful to us indeed," Crocodile said quickly, hooking the front of Buggy's shirt and lifting him off the ground, a sinister smirk spreading across his lips.
