The sun poured down brightly over the small café in Ayodhya, where Ananya and her friend Priya savored a leisurely Sunday breakfast. The enticing aroma of fresh dosas filled the air, mingling with the sounds of laughter and chatter from nearby tables. Ananya took a moment to relish her crispy dosa while Priya delighted in her fluffy idli. Their lively conversation bounced between favorite books and weekend plans, creating a warm cocoon of camaraderie.

After finishing their meals, they ordered steaming cups of coffee to accompany the books they planned to read at the park. The anticipation of a lazy afternoon added to the weekend's charm. As they waited for their drinks, Ananya's gaze drifted around the café, and her heart fluttered unexpectedly when she spotted Vikram entering with a friend. His laughter rang through the room, sending a ripple of excitement through her. It was his birthday-a day she hadn't realized would unfold like this.

Her breath caught for a moment. What were the odds? A sudden spark of destiny ignited in her chest, as if the universe had conspired to bring them together.

She nudged Priya, nodding towards Vikram. "Look, it's him!"

Priya's eyes widened, and a playful grin spread across her face. "You should say hi!"

Gathering her courage, Ananya waved enthusiastically, her hand flapping like a flag of hope. But Vikram, distracted by his phone, didn't notice her at first. Seconds stretched into an awkward eternity. When their eyes finally met, the connection was fleeting; his focus quickly shifted back to his friend. A wave of embarrassment washed over her as she realized how silly she must look.

With a half-hearted smile, she mumbled, "Happy Birthday," loud enough for him to hear, but it felt like a whisper lost in the crowd. Vikram responded with a quick, "Thanks!" before turning back to his conversation.

Ananya felt a dull ache in her chest, her cheerful mood dampening as the weight of reality settled in. Was this all there was? The fleeting moment felt like a glimpse of something magical, only to evaporate before she could grasp it.

Later, at the park, she couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment. Sitting on a sun-drenched bench, she sipped her coffee while Priya buried herself in her book. Ananya's mind wandered back to their earlier interactions. Sure, they had shared jokes over introgram, but every exchange felt like she was trying to fill a void that existed only on her side.

Ananya recalled texting him earlier that day to wish him a happy birthday, but the silence that followed felt heavy. The moment Vikram had entered the café, she'd felt a spark of excitement-a notion that perhaps something more could develop. Yet, as she watched him laugh with his friend, the walls between their worlds felt insurmountable.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, Ananya took out her phone. She scrolled through her drafts, where she kept fragments of thoughts and feelings. One poem stood out, capturing her turmoil perfectly:

Perhaps, I saw this unrealistic dream,
Believing and hoping it would come true.
Thought it's the universe's way of giving back
After all that pain I have gone through-
Finally, a happy ending....!!

The words echoed in her mind, reminding her that while she cherished their friendship, it wasn't leading anywhere.

In the end, it's just pain and embarrassment and pain and pain and hurt.
Waking up from this dream...would that help with easing the pain...perhaps not?
Then where's and what's my liberation?
Do I actually deserve one?
Dream...like a destiny...

With each line, Ananya felt the weight of her expectations lift. She didn't want to build her hopes around someone who seemed perfectly content in his own world. Yet, she couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope each time.

The morning air was cool as they strolled through the park. Ananya and Priya settled on a bench, books in hand, but Ananya's mind was elsewhere. She replayed her earlier encounters with Vikram, wondering if she was misreading the signs.

Then, her phone buzzed-Vikram had replied to her message from earlier, the words appearing like a beacon of light.

"Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'm still at the café. What about you?"

Her heart raced at the thought of connecting with him again, but uncertainty gnawed at her. Was she reading too much into it?

"Just at the park," she typed back, her fingers hovering over the screen for a moment before hitting send.

As they exchanged messages, the conversation flowed easily, yet Ananya felt the invisible barrier remain. They talked about music and movies, his responses coming quicker, but still lacking the intimacy she craved.

When Vikram updated his Instagram profile name to Reyansh, Ananya noticed it immediately, her heart skipping a beat. "You changed your name!??" she typed eagerly, a flutter of excitement coursing through her.

"Yeah, Ananya! I changed my name!" he replied, his enthusiasm evident in his words. For the first time, she felt a thrill at the sound of her name rolling off his tongue.

She quickly typed back, "It suits you!" A warmth spread through her, but just as quickly, she reminded herself to keep her emotions in check.

"Oh, I was actually going to ask you if it does!" He responded with playful curiosity lacing his words. "Does it suit me?"

"Yes, of course!" she answered, a smile blooming on her face. Yet, the smile was tinged with caution, a gentle reminder of the casual nature of their connection.

As they chatted, Ananya's thoughts drifted to the earlier moments of the day-his laughter echoing in the café, the way his eyes lit up when he spoke. Yet, she reminded herself that this wasn't a romance; it was simply a friendship with a spark of something undefined.

With the sun setting, casting golden light over the park, Ananya took a deep breath. The world felt full of possibilities, and while she wasn't sure where this connection with Vikram was headed, she resolved to enjoy the moments they shared without expectations

Sometimes, friendships blossomed unexpectedly, and that was perfectly okay.
