Lady Fos-Boss Enters

"Sophie, you gotta get up for school, first day of High school, you should be excited," Edaline shouts from the kitchen.

Freshmen year. I am not ready for that. I've watched enough movies to know I will not be enjoying it. But at least all my friends will be there. I haven't seen them since July, that is too long to be separated from your besties.

I finish putting on my red Converse and head downstairs for breakfast.

"Morning Edaline."

"Morning Soph, Grady had to head out, so you'll see him after school."

"Alright." I grab Edaline's famous Custard bursts and start snarfing it down.

You are probably wondering why I call my parents by their first names. Well Grady and Edaline are my adoptive parents. Back in sixth grade, my parents and sister died in a building cause of a bomb blast. It took a while to heal and I still don't feel comfortable calling the Mom and Dad, maybe when I'm ready, but not now.

"Sophie, come on, you're usually excited for the first day, I told you that High school is nothing like Mean Girls."

"It's not that, I just, have this feeling like something is going to change."

"Okay Raven Baxter, just finish your breakfast and head to school."

I shove the rest of my food in my mouth, give Eda a hug, and run out the door.

"Sophie, you forgot your-"

"Backpack, right, sorry, love you bye."

I walk down my street and see that there's a car parked in the driveway of the house next to ours. How have I never noticed, I wonder who moved in. (Ya Soph, I wonder too)

Half way down the street I see my best friend Dex.

"Lady Fos-Boss, haven't seen you in so long." Dex has been annoying me with that name when I was group leader for our project .

"Hey, Deck." Ever since Fitz Vacker called him that, I have been annoying him with it as a form of retaliation. We meet up and do our super complicated handshake that nobody knows how to do.

"How was your summer?"

"Oh you know, same old same old, the triplets terrorized our grandparents and they kicked us out, earlier than expected, on the plus side, we got to go to Disney World."

"The Dizznee's at Disney?"

"Oh be quiet."

I start to laugh and a snort escapes from my mouth, the Dex starts laughing, and we both just collapse with laughter.

Once we entered the Foxfire grounds, seriously, who names a school after a mushroom? We spot other friends, Biana, Marella, and Jensi.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NOW WE'RE COMPLETE, I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU GUYS." Biana squeals.

"HeyDexandSophiehowwasyoursummerminewasgreatIgottogototheaquariumandtotheparkandtosomanyotherplaces." Yup, that's Jensi, he always talks like he's on a sugar rush.

"I heard that there's a new boy in school and he is HOT." (Hot is right Marella)

How Marella already got this information, I have no clue.

We all walk into the halls and discuss about what High School will be. "Hey look, it's a slug," Dex points out.

"COOOOOOOOOOOOOL"

"EWWWWWWWWWW." Me, Biana, and Marella say.

"Eww, I meant ew," Jensi corrects himself.

"Dex, get that thing away from me or else."

"Or else what?"

He then proceeds to pick up the slug, and starts chasing me with it.

My legs start going faster than the flash and I run. I didn't even bother looking forward, not with Dex and his disgusting slug (I have nothing on slugs)

I then feel myself crash into a person and fall on top of them. My face must be the equivalent of a fire hydrant.

When I face the person I would have to apologize to, all I see are two of the most Icyest blue eyes I've ever seen.

*Two chapters a day, I am really nailing this author thing. And I see why authors love cliffhangers so much, they are fun.
