The bustling halls of William McKinley High were alive with the sounds of lockers slamming and laughter echoing. Hunter Clarington strode through the school, his presence commanding and confident. He'd come to the Glee Club's territory for a specific purpose: to scare Blaine Anderson. But as he made his way down the hallway, his plans were quickly derailed when he caught sight of Scarlett by her locker.
There she was, looking effortlessly beautiful as she adjusted her Cheerios uniform, her hair falling just right over her shoulders. Hunter felt a smirk tug at his lips, and without thinking, he sneaked up behind her. Just as Scarlett closed her locker and turned around, he jumped out, his playful grin stretching wide.
"Boo!" he exclaimed, relishing the startled look on her face.
Scarlett rolled her eyes, though the surprise quickly morphed into an annoyed smile. "Really, Hunter? Scaring people in high school? How original."
"Just wanted to see if you'd scream," he said, leaning against the lockers, arms crossed casually. "But I guess you're not that easily frightened, huh?"
"Maybe not by you," she shot back, her confidence unwavering as she leaned back against her locker, mirroring his relaxed pose.
Hunter raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Oh, so you think you know me?"
"I know enough," she replied, folding her arms defiantly. "You're just a rich, snobby guy with a superiority complex."
"And you're just a cheerleader who thinks she runs the school," Hunter teased, taking a step closer, the banter fueling the tension between them.
As Scarlett turned to walk down the hallway, Hunter followed closely, a playful grin on his face. "You know, I think we'd make a pretty good team, Scarlett. You, me, and a whole lot of chaos."
"Yeah, right," she said, glancing over her shoulder at him. "I'm not into troublemakers."
"Good thing I'm just here to flirt, then," he replied, winking.
Scarlett froze mid-step as she noticed Kitty, a girl she'd never really gotten along with, strutting down the hallway. Kitty's eyes lit up at the sight of Hunter, her gaze shifting from Scarlett to him as she adjusted her skirt, making it even shorter, and leaned into her cheerleader persona. She flipped her hair back, a practiced move that was meant to catch attention, and it worked—Hunter's eyes flicked toward her for just a moment.
Scarlett felt a rush of jealousy bubble up inside her, the knot in her stomach tightening. Her frown deepened as she clenched her jaw, watching Kitty's advances with a mix of irritation and protectiveness. She didn't want Kitty anywhere near Hunter, and the realization hit her hard; maybe she did have feelings for him after all. It was more than just playful banter or rivalry—this was something deeper.
"Come on, Scarlett, let's keep moving," Hunter said, oblivious to her inner turmoil as he continued to chat. But Scarlett wasn't listening. The thought of Kitty leaning into Hunter and batting her eyelashes was too much to bear.
Ignoring Hunter's continued chatter, Scarlett suddenly turned her heart racing, and grabbed him by his tie, yanking him closer. The suddenness of her action caught him off guard, and he raised an amused eyebrow, clearly enjoying the sudden turn of events. "What's this?" he asked, a teasing smirk playing on his lips.
"You're my boyfriend for five minutes," she declared, pressing her back against the lockers, a mischievous glint in her eyes. The thrill of the moment surged through her as she pulled him in for a kiss, not giving him a chance to respond.
