"What are we waiting for?"
Pei Ji An broke the awkwardness first, whispering a question.
His words were clearly directed at Pei Zheng and Shen Ji Ming. After hearing him, the two of them obediently lowered their heads and entered the room.
In a little while, they came out wearing green military uniforms, with rubber-soled shoes on their feet, each carrying a military blanket on their backs that looked like a block of tofu. On top of the blanket was stuffed a pair of old cloth shoes, and at their waists hung canteens while they held wooden sticks in their hands.
Seeing their ease and speed, it was likely they had often been punished like this.
Pei Ji An said, "Three sets of five kilometers. If you don't finish, you won't get to eat dinner."
"Yes!" Pei Zheng and Shen Ji Ming replied firmly, lining up to start running, looking quite like they were in a military formation.
As they passed by Xiao Gu Huai, the little one clapped his hands and tugged at his brother's clothes, "Run, run."
Pei Zheng lightly tapped Xiao Gu Huai on the head, saying, "You little ungrateful brat, I've been nice to you for nothing."
"Gah?" The little one tilted his head, trying to be cute.
Lu Nong exclaimed, "Hey, kid, come here and cuddle with Mommy!"
Pei Zheng ran off with a face full of envy, turning back occasionally to look with reluctance.
Lu Nong felt pleased and then continued to snuggle with the little one.
Who understands this heavenly life of having a child around?
Oh, the mischievous Pei Zheng understands, but right now he can't enjoy it as he's being punished to run. Hahaha.
After savoring her time with Xiao Gu Huai, Lu Nong remembered that Wu Ma hadn't been settled yet and called out to Pei Ji An, who was about to go upstairs to change clothes, "Pei..."
She had just spoken one word when she hesitated; Pei Ji An was much older and held a higher position, so calling him by his full name felt a bit disrespectful.
After a moment of thought, Lu Nong decided to follow Wu Ma's example and called out, "Commander."
Pei Ji An stopped in his tracks, looking down at Lu Nong with his usual indifferent and ascetic demeanor, the kind of expression he often wore when he wasn't showing any emotion.
Lu Nong realized that Pei Ji An was truly suited to looking down from a height, especially when he wasn't speaking.
Majestic and imposing, he stood out from the crowd.
Despite his refined and handsome appearance, people often overlooked his looks at first glance, captivated instead by the aura he exuded. They rarely remembered his face, instead recalling the intimidation they felt in that moment.
Lu Nong paused, then continued with a slightly melancholic tone, "Where do you think Wu Ma should live?"
Using "you" in her question indicated that her attitude was very respectful.
After all, she was asking for a favor, and Lu Nong displayed a great deal of flexibility, completely abandoning the arrogance she had shown earlier towards Pei Ji An.
Wu Ma, standing nearby, immediately perked up at this, nervously watching Pei Ji An's lips, fearing that she might hear she was to be sent away.
Her concern was somewhat unnecessary; since Pei Ji An had gone out of his way to pick her up, it was impossible for him to send her away. This was just a case of being overly anxious.
