Taylor sat in front of the mirror backstage, her gaze steady as stylists busied themselves with makeup brushes and curling irons. Her first show for the Eras Tour was about to begin, and though she tried to keep her focus on the monumental night ahead, there was a quiet tension in the air that she couldn't quite shake. The anticipation, the energy backstage—it all felt electric, like the hum before a thunderstorm. But beneath that charge, there was something else she hadn't expected: a sense of quiet unrest.

The voices of her dancers floated around the room, their conversation turning from harmless gossip to the latest Hollywood buzz. Taylor's focus sharpened when one name slipped into the air—Daisy. Her heart stumbled, but she quickly forced herself to stay calm. Six years had passed. Six years since she'd last seen Daisy, six years since she'd read the letter that sat, unread yet ever-present, hidden in her drawer.

One of the dancers laughed, leaning in close to the others. "Did you hear? Daisy Cox is starring in that new queer film, Love Bite. Apparently, it's about this whirlwind romance between two women. It's supposed to be intense."

Taylor's hands clenched on her lap, a small movement that she hoped no one noticed. She told herself she didn't care. She didn't need to care. Daisy was just another actor now, her career thriving in a way Taylor had always known it would. But the memory of the last time they'd spoken—of the letter, of those raw, final words—flickered painfully in her mind, stirring feelings she'd buried years ago.

"It's supposed to be a really bold role for her," another dancer added, her voice almost reverent. "Like, groundbreaking. People are already talking about it, and it hasn't even wrapped filming yet."

Taylor felt her pulse quicken, each word unearthing memories she'd tried to lock away. Daisy had come out publicly a few years ago, a decision Taylor had admired but had pretended to ignore. And now, hearing about Daisy taking on a role like this—something so unapologetic, so open—reminded her of all the things she had been too afraid to do, too afraid to be. She stared at her reflection, willing herself to stay composed, even as her heart raced.

Enough. She didn't need this tonight. She had worked too hard to get here, to rebuild herself, to create this new chapter. She couldn't let herself get lost in the past.

With a calm she didn't quite feel, she turned to her manager, who was hovering nearby, phone in hand. "Hey," Taylor said quietly, her voice steady. "Could we clear the room for a bit? I just... I need some quiet before the show starts."

Her manager nodded, not questioning it, and with a few quiet words, began ushering the dancers out of the room. The buzz of conversation faded, and as the door clicked shut, silence settled around her. Taylor released a slow, shaky breath, steadying herself.

She looked into the mirror again, meeting her own gaze, trying to block out everything else. Tonight wasn't about Daisy. Tonight was about her music, her fans, everything she had built over the years. But no matter how hard she tried, a faint whisper of Daisy lingered in the air, the echo of something she couldn't quite shake, couldn't quite forget.
