Me and Resha woke up at the same time. It was pretty awkward because she was still holding me from last night. We both got up and started to get ready, Resha wasn't expecting to stay the night but luckily I had an extra of everything that she could use and I let her wear something of mine.
I was embarrassed by the way I poured myself out to her last night so I hadn't said much since we woke up. Then finally she broke the silence.
"I turn eighteen this upcoming Friday" she said .
"Oh, really? What are you going to do?" I questioned.
"I don't know but I was thinking... I know it's soon and were still getting to know each other but my parents are buying me an apartment the day after my birthday and we could be roommates so you won't have to stay in this motel... Alone" she finished off looking really uncomfortable.
I liked the thought of being roommates with Resha but I didn't want her asking me out of pity. The last thing I needed was people doing stuff for me because they felt sorry .
I studied her a bit.
"Look thats a nice offer but I dont need you doing stuff because you feel sorry for me."
"I don't feel sorry for you. I mean it's really upsetting that you had to go through something like that but I just want to help you out. I wouldn't feel right leaving you in this motel and I'm going to have my own place soon."
She's right, I Dont even know how long I can keep up on these payments before I run clean outta money. "Okay then", I smiled "consider us official roomys."
"Well I have to get home, I'll text you okay ?"
"Alright, drive safe." I yelled watching her leave from the door.
I was off today and I decided I had been out enough for the last couple of days, I was just gonna chill out in the motel for a while. Hmm, I found it a little weird that I hadn't heard from Jonathan lately. I checked my phone.
I had seven different text messages from seven different niggas but neither one was Jonathan. Well he's sadly mistaken if he thinks imma text him first.
I spent all day watching lifetime movies, eating left over pizza, and texting Resha and a few of the niggas I met the night before.
The 10 'o' clock news came on. I was all up in my phone when I heard that there was an Amber Alert. My head snapped up and locked eyes on the TV and sure enough my picture was big as day on the TV screen. They had my full name, age, and description on there. These last couple of days I forgot I was seventeen and my parents still had sole responsibility for me. Then I saw my mother and poor excuse of a father flash across the screen. My mother was crying hysterically and that poor excuse of a man looked like he hadn't sleep in days. If I hadn't of known better I'd think they truly cared about me and wanted my safe return home. I know if I did, I'd go back to the same shit and I wasn't moved at all.
It was nothing but God above that made get up and look out my window because when I did I seen about six officers approaching the main building of the motel.
That gave me about five minutes before they showed whoever was at the front desk my picture and they pointed them right to my room.
Shit shit shit. My heart was about to jump outta my chest. Getting the police involved in my situation was the last thing I wanted to do, I didn't wanna end up in some group home because I still had a good nine months before I turned eighteen.
I started grabbing stuff, clothes, shoes, my purse, and my phone. I was pretty sure I didn't have half the matches to my shoes but that didn't matter right now. I left everything exactly where it was and rushed out the door going the total opposite way of the officers that were coming up the stairs to my left.
I knew they wouldn't recognize me from behind because of my hair change. I was flying down the stairs two at a time.
I turned the corner where I ran straight into more officers and reporters. I definitely couldn't go back up or move forward. I was stuck between them and a six foot muddy ditch with a busy freeway beside it. I couldn't contemplate much longer, I was hidden by a single pole. If I called Resha or even Jonathan to come get me out this mess I would still have to find a way out.
I wasn't wearing nothing but socks, some pajama shorts and a T-shirt. I grabbed my bags and started for the ditch and as soon as I did someone grabbed my shoulder. I turned my head to see a big white officer, one hand on my shoulder and the other reaching for his walkie talkie. All I could think was run.
I ran through the ditch but traffic was way too busy to cross to the other side. I had no choice but to keep running through this dirty ditch. I didn't even wanna look back to see if the officer was chasing me and if so how close or far behind he was. I ran as fast and as long as my legs would allow, flinging dirt everywhere. I stoppedand was breathing so hard I thought I was going to pass out. My chest was heaving up and down and I felt like my lungs were bout to explode.
When I heard sirens coming from the direction I had just ran from I didn't even think I just ran. I was about seven minutes from the next exit and I was going to make it. I knew I had to stop soon, I was slowing down, getting dizzy and was for sure I was going to pass out soon if I didn't catch my breath. I was sure I ran a good two miles.
Before I knew it I had just made the exit, I turned left and walked a couple steps before I seen an old train tunnel. I ran to it and as soon as I hit the darkness I collapsed. I was exhausted and could have just let them find me here but the fight in me disagreed. The tunnel was the first thing I seen when I turned and hit the exit and I knew the cops would do the same. I lifted myself up and walked as fast as I could . I had walked about ten minutes and decided the sirens were faint enough to use my phone. I sat my bag down and fished through my purse.
I retrieved my cellphone after several seconds. There was dirt encrusted in all my fingernails and my hands just wouldn't stop shaking. I thought I pressed Resha's contact but after three rings a male picked up.
"Hello?" He answered.
I started to hang up but beep beep*.I looked at my phone to see it was only on 3% I didn't have time to call Resha before my phone went dead. I also noticed the number I dialed was Jonathan's.
"I need you to come get me right now please, I don't have time to explain !" I yelled into the phone.
"I'm on my way, where you at?" He asked sounding urgent.
Everything looked so unfamiliar. I saw a sign on the traffic light .
"I'm on McDuff avenue but I can't stay I'll be moving forward just ke--" beep beep* "Goodbye" my phone said.
I wanted to give up and cry. What the fuck was I going to do. It was a little after 1:00am and here I am walking the streets. I told him I was going to keep moving forward but I was too out in the open. I'm sure that officer gave a thorough description of what I had on.
I went through a cut and looked through the bag I managed to keep with me. I found a pair of jeans, a hoodie, and a pair of flip-flops and slipped it on. The alley looked like a straight shot so I kept forward. I walked and walked. I was scared and so incredibly exhausted I couldn't hold myself up anymore. I slumped against an old rusted trash can and closed my eyes. Next thing I know I was being lifted into the back of a car. I was defeated, put up all that fight for nothing. I didn't even bother opening my eyes.
