It was a beautiful morning in Yookia.
Almost a year had passed since Sam's birth. Melanie was now five years old and loved being a big sister. She showed him how to color and liked to look at picture books with him.
Helping Pam with making breakfast, Gene was really chipper now that he was given another new case.
"Where's it gonna be and what are you uncovering?", Pam asked.
"It's some real estate scam in Anville. The Dooka wants me to figure out who's behind it. Should be pretty easy, in and out."
"Okay. If you say so." Pam had a worried expression.
Gene noticed it. "What's eating you, hon?"
She shook her head. "Nothing, just..." Then she wipes a tear. "...I'm afraid those jerks will get you again."
Then he understood. Gene felt the stitched up letters on the back of his head. K-Y-L-E-R. "Hmm. Why would they carve one of their names into my head? What good does that do?"
Pam shrugged her shoulders. "When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow."
Pam sets her spatula down, throws her arms around Gene and stands on the ends of her toes so she could kiss him. "I'll go with you", she whispers to him.
"Sorry. It would seem too suspicious if we kept going on missions together, especially since we're married. Besides, the Dooka insists just one of us goes. Might make it a little more convincing and easier to get answers."
This further tainted Pam's spirit. She bit her lip to stop it from trembling as more tears fell. Then she kissed him again. "I love you, Gene."
"I love you too."

Later that evening, it was just Gene sitting on the couch with both of the children, each one sitting on one of his knees.
"Now, listen, you two. Daddy's gonna be going out of town for a couple days for work. Don't think I'm leaving because I don't love you; that's ludicrous. I love both of you so much , it makes no sense."
"I love you too, Daddy", said Melanie, and she hugged him.
Sam grunted as he reached his little hands forward. Gene pulled him closer so he could be hugged too.
"Just remember: your daddy loves you." And he individually kissed their foreheads.
Pam, who was sitting to his left, leans in for a hug too.
"I didn't forget you, hon." He turns his head to look Pam in the eyes and then kisses her.
With his wife and both of his children so close to him, Gene felt blessed with so much love and good fortune.

The following afternoon, Gene sat alone on a train to Anville. Since it was a quaint valley town, they didn't have an airport; just a train station. He ate a plate of green eggs and ham. In fact, it was his first time eating them in a while. During Pam's pregnancy, she had cooked and eaten so many that it kind of put him off the meal for quite some time. But tasting them for the first time in a long time reminded him of why he loved it so much.
Even though he tried them before meeting her, the taste took him back to when he first met Lana...
