Crossed Lines

The morning light filtered softly through the blinds as Yunnie stirred in bed, blinking against the sunlight. Jake was still asleep beside her, his breathing slow and steady, oblivious to the inner turmoil swirling within her. She rolled over, staring at him for a moment, the peacefulness of his face tugging at her guilt.

She slipped quietly out of bed, pulling on a sweater and glancing at her phone. A reminder flashed on her screen: Check mailbox for the contract. Some paperwork from her job as a dancer was supposed to arrive today. She sighed, rubbing her eyes. That shoot seemed like a lifetime ago, but Jay's gaze still lingered in her mind.

Carefully, she tiptoed out of the bedroom and headed for the mailroom downstairs. Her steps echoed faintly in the hallway, her mind still clouded with last night's text from Ni-ki. She didn't know what to expect today—only that avoiding him had become impossible.

When she opened the door to the mailroom, her heart sank. There he was, leaning against the wall, arms crossed, waiting for her. Ni-ki's dark eyes met hers with a mix of amusement and something else—something dangerous.

"Took you long enough," Ni-ki said, his voice low, teasing.

Yunnie swallowed hard, stepping forward. "What are you doing here?"

"Waiting for you, obviously," Ni-ki replied, his smirk deepening. He pushed himself off the wall, moving closer to her. "We need to talk."

"About what?" Yunnie asked, her heart racing.

"About us. About how you're pretending we're not happening." His eyes locked onto hers, sharp and challenging. "I know you don't want to be with him."

Yunnie's throat tightened. "Ni-ki, stop. You know this is wrong. Jake's your best friend."

"Yeah? So why do you keep coming back to me?" Ni-ki's hand brushed her arm, his touch sending a shiver through her. "You can act like you don't care, but I know better."

She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened. "You're playing a dangerous game."

"And so are you," Ni-ki murmured, leaning in closer. "You don't have to lie to yourself, Yunnie. I know what you want."

Yunnie's head spun as the temptation built, his words gnawing at the walls she'd carefully constructed. She hated that he was right. But before she could respond, a loud click echoed in the quiet room—the sound of the mailroom door opening.

Yunnie jumped back, but it was just a neighbor coming to check their mail. Ni-ki smirked, stepping away, leaving her shaken.

"We're not done here," he whispered before walking past her and out the door.

Yunnie's legs felt weak as she reached for her mailbox, pulling out the paperwork in a daze. She couldn't keep this up much longer. The lies, the sneaking around—it was suffocating. But no matter how hard she tried, Ni-ki had a hold on her she couldn't shake.

Back in the apartment, the smell of something savory filled the air as Yunnie stepped inside. Jake was in the kitchen, humming softly as he scrambled eggs, completely unaware of the turmoil Yunnie had just gone through.

"Hey, you're up early," he said with a grin, looking over his shoulder at her. "I thought I'd make us some breakfast. Saturday morning tradition, right?"

Yunnie forced a smile, grateful for the distraction. "Yeah, that sounds perfect."

They spent the next hour eating together, laughing and chatting about lighthearted things—Jake's practice, their plans for the day, random jokes. Yunnie found comfort in these moments, where everything seemed normal, where Jake's warmth could push away the darkness gnawing at her.

But even as they talked, her mind kept wandering back to Ni-ki. The way his touch lingered on her skin, the way his words echoed in her ears. She tried to focus on Jake, on the man who loved her unconditionally. But guilt was a heavy weight she couldn't shake.

Later that afternoon, as they were lounging on the couch, Jake's phone buzzed with a message. He opened it and smiled.

"Looks like Jungwon's organizing a movie night for the guys tonight," Jake said, his eyes lighting up. "You should come. Sunghoon's coming with Bulle, we haven't seen her in a while."

(Im sorry💀)

Yunnie hesitated. Spending time with the rest of Enhypen, especially with Ni-ki there, made her stomach twist. But she couldn't say no without raising suspicion. And besides, Bulle would be there, and she hadn't seen her in forever.

"Sure, that sounds fun," Yunnie replied, trying to keep her tone light.

The thought of seeing Ni-ki again so soon made her nervous, but maybe being around everyone else would keep things under control. At least, that's what she told herself.

As the evening approached, Yunnie found herself texting Bulle.

Yunnie: Hey, you're coming tonight, right?

Bulle's response was quick.

Bulle: Of course⁉️ It's been ages since we hung out😤

Yunnie sighed, staring at her phone. Bulle had always been one of her closest friends, someone she could talk to about almost anything. Heck Yunnie was the first to know Bulle's plan of using Jyp for his money before getting with Sunghoon. But this? How could she even begin to explain the mess she was in? Should she confide in Bulle about her situation? Could she trust her to keep such a huge secret? Of course she could..

As she got ready for the evening, Yunnie couldn't shake the feeling that she was at a crossroads. The lies, the secrets—they were starting to pile up, threatening to crash down at any moment. And tonight, surrounded by the people she was closest to, it felt like something was bound to break.
