I woke up with a mix of anxiety and determination.
After getting ready, I headed downstairs to share breakfast with Mom."Mom, I need to tell you something," I said hesitantly, fidgeting with my napkin.
"What is it, dear?" Mom asked, concern etched on her face.
"I got fired from the bartender job," I admitted, avoiding eye contact.
Mom's expression softened. "Sorry, dear. It's okay, don't worry."
But memories of her hidden surgery flooded my mind.
"How can I not worry, Mom?"
I asked irritably.
"You're taking all the burden. You didn't even tell me about the surgery."Mom's smile faltered.
"I didn't want to add to your struggles. I've managed already. I've decided to sell my mother's house."My eyes widened in alarm.
"No, Mom, you can't do that! That's all we have left of Grandma."Mom's voice trembled. "Arin is more important than anything else right now."
I grasped her hand firmly.
"Mom, I'll find a way to solve everything. You don't have to do this."After reassuring Mom, I bid her farewell and left for the cafe , still pondering Mr. Yoon's mysterious invitation.
After arriving, I was still unclear whether I should go or not... and then my phone buzzed, and I saw a notification:
"Meet at Hotel Bellevue ,12 pm [Room 17]."
I was still battling in my mind, but in the end, I decided to go.
It was already 11 am, so I asked my boss to leave early today, and she agreed happily.
The next hour, I was standing outside the hotel, still nervous about how all this would go,
but I took a step and found the room number as stated in the message and knocked.
"Good to see you, Ms. Jessica. I'm glad you came."
The Secretary from the previous night opened the door and greted me .I smiled back, still uncertain.
As I followed Secretary Kim through the labyrinthine corridor, my heart raced.
We entered a spacious room where Mr. Yoon Daesong, flanked by two imposing bodyguards, concluded
a phone call."Please, sit," Mr. Yoon said, gesturing to a chair.
I bowed respectfully before taking my seat.
"Relax, Ms. Jessica. How are you?" Mr. Yoon asked, his piercing eyes scrutinizing.
"Good, thank you," I replied, confusion evident.
Mr. Yoon leaned forward, serious.
"I'll get straight to the point. I want you as a bodyguard for my son."
My eyes widened. "Mr. Yoon, what are you talking about? Do you even know what you're saying?"
Mr. Yoon's calm demeanor unnerved me.
"I know exactly what I'm saying. I witnessed your impressive fight against those five men last night."
My mind reeled.
"But that doesn't qualify me to be a bodyguard for the future CEO of Yoon Enterprises," I protested.
Mr. Yoon leaned back, steepling his fingers.
"Your unique skills and instincts make you an ideal candidate."
I shook my head.
"That's still not possible, sir. I have no security experience."
