The early morning sun had just begun to rise, casting a soft, golden light over the savannah. Kion and Pride walked side by side, their paw steps almost in sync as they made their way to the army training grounds. Despite the peaceful surroundings, there was a tension hanging in the air, thick and unyielding. Kion couldn't shake the nervous feeling twisting in his stomach, and every step closer to the training grounds made it worse.Pride, on the other hand, walked with his head held high, his posture straight and confident. The strong lion exuded a sense of calm that Kion envied. As if sensing Kion's unease, Pride turned his head and gave his friend a reassuring smile."Hey," Pride said in his usual warm tone, "it's going to be okay, Kion. I know this is scary—heck, it's scary for me too—but we're in this together. I'm here for you, no matter what."Kion nodded, trying to find his voice. "Thanks, Pride. I just... I've never been through something like this. Leading the Lion Guard was tough, but this is different. It's war."Pride's smile softened. "I know. But we've faced tough battles before. We'll get through this too. And remember, we're not alone. We've got each other, and we've got our pride. We'll fight for them."The words helped, but Kion still couldn't shake the dread building inside him. He had always been brave in the face of danger, but this felt so much bigger than anything he'd ever faced. Still, he drew strength from Pride's confidence. If Pride could stay strong, then maybe Kion could too.As they approached the army training camp, the atmosphere changed. The once serene surroundings were replaced by the sounds of soldiers shouting commands, the thud of pawsteps as lions marched in formation, and the harsh clang of metal weapons being sharpened. The training grounds were a vast open space, with different areas set up for various exercises—strength training, combat practice, and even endurance courses that stretched far into the distance.Standing in the middle of the camp, waiting for the new recruits, was **Sergeant Korus**, a massive lion with scars covering his body from past battles. His piercing yellow eyes surveyed the arriving young lions with a scowl that seemed permanently etched onto his face. His fur was dark, almost black, and his voice was as rough as the rock formations of Pride Rock itself. As Kion and Pride approached, Sergeant Korus's gaze locked onto them, and his expression darkened even further. "So, these are the new recruits, huh?" he growled, pacing back and forth in front of them. "A bunch of soft, pampered cubs, if you ask me!"Pride stood tall, unshaken by the sergeant's words, but Kion could feel his nerves intensifying under Korus's harsh gaze. The sergeant stopped in front of Pride, his eyes narrowing. "You look like you think you're something special, boy."Pride didn't flinch. "I'm here to serve the Pride Lands, sir.""Serve the Pride Lands?" Korus snarled, his voice dripping with contempt. "You're not here to serve anything until I say you're ready. Do you think this is some kind of game? This is war, boy! If you mess up, you don't get another chance. If you hesitate for even a second, you die—and so do your friends!"Kion felt a lump form in his throat. Korus's words cut through the air like claws, reminding him of the gravity of what they were about to face. Pride, though, remained unfazed."I understand, sir," Pride replied calmly.Korus growled, clearly unimpressed by Pride's composed demeanor. "We'll see about that." He turned to address the rest of the recruits, his voice booming across the training grounds. "Listen up, all of you! Training starts now. This isn't playtime in the Pride Lands. This is war, and I'll make soldiers out of you even if it kills me—or you."The sergeant's words sent a chill down Kion's spine, but he forced himself to stay focused. The next few days would be grueling, and he couldn't afford to let fear consume him.---The first day of training was brutal. Sergeant Korus wasted no time in pushing the recruits to their limits. They began with endurance exercises, running laps around the camp until their legs burned and their paws ached. Kion had never run so far in his life, and his muscles screamed in protest, but he kept going. He couldn't stop—not when Pride was still running beside him, not when every other lion was pushing themselves as hard as they could. At one point, Kion faltered, his legs buckling from exhaustion. He fell behind, panting heavily, but Pride was there in an instant. "Come on, Kion, you've got this!" Pride encouraged, his voice firm but kind. "Don't give up!"Kion nodded, gritting his teeth as he pushed himself back to his feet. He couldn't quit now. He had to keep going—for his pride, for his family, and for himself.Sergeant Korus, however, was watching from a distance. He saw Kion's struggle and stomped over, his eyes blazing with anger."What's the matter, cub? Can't keep up?" Korus spat, standing over Kion as he struggled to regain his footing. "If you can't even finish this run, you'll never survive on the battlefield!"Kion's heart raced, both from the exertion and from the sergeant's harsh words. He felt humiliated, but before he could respond, Pride stepped in."He's stronger than you think, sir," Pride said, standing protectively between Kion and Korus. "Kion's led the Lion Guard. He's a fighter."Korus sneered. "The Lion Guard, huh? I don't care what he's done before. Out here, that doesn't mean anything. Out here, you're all the same—just weak recruits who need to toughen up."Despite Korus's harshness, Kion found some comfort in Pride's words. Pride believed in him, even when Korus didn't. With newfound determination, Kion forced himself to keep going, step after step, until he finished the run alongside his friend.---The rest of the training was just as relentless. They were taught how to fight in formation, to hold their ground against overwhelming odds. Korus barked commands at them, pushing them harder and harder each day. The recruits had to learn how to work as a team, and how to trust each other with their lives. But Kion and Pride never wavered. No matter how difficult it became, they pushed through together.Late one night, after a long day of brutal training, Kion and Pride sat under the stars, exhausted but determined. Kion was sore all over, his muscles aching, but he felt stronger somehow—like the hardships of training were shaping him into something more."Thanks for standing up for me earlier," Kion said quietly, glancing at Pride. "I don't think I would have made it without you."Pride grinned, his usual confidence returning. "We're in this together, Kion. I told you, no matter what happens, I've got your back."Kion smiled, feeling a little lighter despite the weight of what lay ahead. "We'll get through this," he said, more to himself than anyone else.Pride nodded. "Yeah, we will. And when the war comes... we'll be ready."As they sat in silence, the stars twinkling overhead, Kion knew that this was only the beginning of a long and difficult journey. But with Pride by his side, he felt like he could face anything.
