I just finished the first class today, and my second and last class could start any minute now. As I was thinking about this, the first group of students came into the studio. I greeted everyone and welcomed them in, hoping that they would all arrive on time so we could start promptly.
It had been a long day for me, and I was really ready to go home. I looked in the studio mirror and saw the outfit I chose this morning, minus the sweater—now I was only in a T-shirt. I preferred dancing in my regular clothes.
I noticed that everyone had arrived and was now waiting for me to start the lesson. In the corner, I could see Londyn. I was happy that she really enjoyed the classes.
"Okay, everybody. I want to start a new dance, but there will be something different this time," I said.
Everyone was patiently waiting to hear what the new thing could be.
"I will be making pairs of two so that at the end of the class, you can show me the dance you learned. This way, I can also see where you need improvement. After the pairs are made, I will give each team 15 minutes to add your own style. You can change something in the dance or dance a bit more together. You can do anything, but I want you all to put your own input into it." I said, hoping they would like the idea. I wanted them to improve their improvisation skills a bit.
I could see that everyone was a bit skeptical about this idea, but I thought it would be beneficial—this way, not every dance would be the same.
"Okay, that said, we will be dancing to 'The Boy Is Mine' by Ariana Grande. You can make this dance sexy if you want; it's totally up to you and the partner I will match you with. Let's start, and then I'll make the pairs," I said while clapping my hands.
"Okay, 1, 2, 3, and..."
After a while, everyone started to get the hang of the dance I was teaching them, and we began the performance part.
"Okay, everybody, you're doing great, but let's start with the dance teams. First up, Team 5," I said.
Londyn and Liam got into position. This dance was sexy, and I hoped Londyn was okay with that. I noticed she could be insecure about herself sometimes. In the beginning, I hadn't noticed this, but when we sat down for coffee today, I saw that she seemed a bit nervous. She was fidgeting with her hands a lot.
The music started, and I could see that Liam and Londyn were both getting into the mental space to bring the dance to life in front of the class. During the dance, they were both very good; I could see that Liam added a bit more sass to it, which I loved. Maybe it was because he was gay, but he really brought it.
Londyn was also performing well, although she struggled a bit with the basic dance steps. The sexy parts, however, she nailed. If she could combine those, she would have the dance. But then again, if you can dance in such a sexy way, why would you even try? I would love to dance with her sometime, but I didn't know if she would feel comfortable with that. I didn't want to push her limits again.
At the end of the dance, they were patiently waiting for my feedback.
"Thank you, Londyn and Liam. You guys did amazing. Liam, I loved how you brought the sass to the dance. You really nailed the steps. There were some minor slip-ups, but overall you did great." I pointed out.
He nodded at me, then waited for my feedback for Londyn.
"Londyn, I loved how you handled the more sensual moves in the dance. You really know how to bring that part to life. However, you seemed to struggle a bit with the basic steps—am I right?" I asked her, just to be sure.
"That's correct. I know the steps, but performing them and combining everything can be a bit hard," she told me. With a shy look.
"Yes, if you can combine the steps with the sexy parts, you did an amazing job—better than I could do!"
