Your boyfriend of a year is bringing you to a family gathering. His father, his aunt, his uncle, and his cousin are going to be there. You are so excited to meet his family as you've never had one before. You were an orphan growing up on the streets all your life.

"Andrew are you ready yet we're gonna be late?" "So I know you're excited to meet my family but if they say something to upset you let me know." "They're not gonna upset me Andrew." "Okay. Let's go."

Andrew leads me into the building. Every head turns towards us. You smile at them. They look you over and only the youngest male smiles at you. You look at Andrew. "Did I do something wrong Andrew already? They won't even smile back at me?" "Not true Cousin Monroe smiled back." "So one of them smiling should make me feel welcome while the rest are sending me judging stares?" "Its just because they haven't met you yet." You nod. Andrew leads you over to them.

"Dad I'd like you to meet my girlfriend Jean." "Really Andrew a Kehrseite not even a Kehrseite-Schlich-Kennen?" You look between Andrew and his father. He called you something in German. "I'm sorry if I've done something to offend you Mr. Dietrich, but please try to get to know me before you pass judgement on me." He looks surprised. He looks you over and nods. He holds out his hand "I'm Felix Dietrich Andrew's father." You shake his hand. "Nice to meet you Mr. Dietrich." "Please call me Felix." "Only if you call me Jean." You smile at him. He nods.

Andrew motions to the others. "Time to meet the others." You nod. "Aunt Alice, Uncle Bart this is my girlfriend Jean Sullivan." "It's nice to meet you. What would you like me to call you?" "Alice and Bart are fine dear." "Thank you. Its so nice to meet Andrew's family as I haven't got any of my own." "You don't have any family dear?" "I'm an Orphan. I grew up on the streets." "That's unfortunate. How did you meet our nephew Andrew?" "Oh. Its actually a funny story. I crashed into him on my rollerblades. He was walking around a corner carrying coffee and stepped into my path. I barreled him right over spilling his coffee all over him. I felt so bad that I offered to replace the coffee and get his shirt washed." "Which I agreed to the moment I saw her eyes. She brought me to her friends laundry mat and bought me a coffee from next door while we waited on my shirt. We started to date after that." "Well not right after that Andrew you did stalk me for about a month before you even said hi to me again." Andrew just rubs the back of his neck "I still can't believe that you knew I was stalking you." "Uh I can tell when I'm being watched and I kept catching your cologne smell literally everywhere. Plus I spotted you out of the corner of my eye a few times." "I keep telling you I didn't wear cologne back then." "Then how come I knew that smell was you." "Because you've got a good nose." You smile and shake your head. "You sure she's only a Kehrseite Andrew?" You turn your head to Andrew's cousin that you haven't been introduced to yet. You hold out your hand "I'm  Jean. You must be Andrew's cousin." He shakes your hand "I'm Monroe."

When he shakes your hand a warm shiver crosses your body. You release his hand. "Well its nice to meet you Monroe. And I don't know what Kehrseite means but I am probably am one if both Andrew's father and you used the same word." Monroe smiles at you. You blink and feel the need to smile back. You're drawn to Monroe's eyes. You can't seem to look away. Andrew breaks your line of sight. When we sit down to eat Monroe is across from you.  Andrew looks at his father "Did you remember that I told you Jean is Vegitarian you did have the chef make her something appropriate right?" "We're Blutbad Andrew we eat meat we're not vegetarian." "So you didn't tell the chef to make her something she can eat then." You look at Andrew "Its okay Andrew its fine. I'm sure they'll be something besides just meat. I'll just eat the sides it'll be good."

You were wrong there is literally only different types of meat. You sigh. You watch as everyone eats the meat. You pick up your purse and pullout your emergency snack bar. You just eat that. Monroe is watching you again. You just ignore him eventhough they're is this pull you feel towards him.

Dinner ends and Andrew says he needs to talk to his dad alone and that it might be awhile. You nod. Monroe steps up beside you "Why don't I take Jean to get something she can eat while you talk to Uncle Felix?" "Jean would you be okay if Monroe actually brings you home after getting some food?" "Oh. Yeah sure. Only if Monroe is okay with it." "Of course." "Thanks cousin." "No problem Andrew." You give Andrew a kiss and go with Monroe.

Monroe brings you to find a place with good salads. "Okay now uh where do you live?" You tell him your address. "No way." "What?" "I live in the same neighborhood." "That is pretty cool." He nods. "So could you really smell my cousin?" "Oh. Uh yeah." "So what does he smell like to you?" "Oh. Um. Like the forrest and a sort of musk smell." "And what about me?" "What?" "What do I smell like?" You take in a breath through your nose.

"Oh wow." "What?" "You smell like the forrest just after it rained, clean linen, and..." "And what?" "And I don't understand how to exactly describe it but best word I can use is Safety." "I smell like Safety?" "It doesn't make sense I know. But uh you smell like my favorite scents and like safety." Monroe smiles "I get how I can smell like safety. I know someone who smells like danger." You laugh and smile "Nobody has ever understood me like that before. Usually when I say something strange like that people laugh and call me weird or crazy." Monroe smiles at your laugh "Glad to be of service."

Monroe pulls into your driveway. He walks you to the door. You give him a hug "Thanks for the ride and for the salad and for understanding me." "I'm happy to be of service." "I know this is gonna sound strange but can I have your number? I'd like to keep in contact I think we'd be good friends." Monroe just smiles and says "Hand me your phone." You exchange phone numbers.
